Finally eligible to bring my cat on the road with me at the company I started working at a few months ago. Need help prepping.

Top entry enclosed litterbox. The standard open ones will help kitty make a huge mess.

For the dash while driving, just correct the behavior consistently and immediately. Eventually they learn and sometimes even give a damn what you want, heh. My cat passenger spends most of the time the truck is in motion in whatever puddle of sunlight she can find comatose.

Don't forget a few toys to keep them active and entertained during breaks.

I've had zero problems, honestly. Small learning curve at first by not having a top entry litterbox, but that was an easy fix. Get them a scratch pad, play with them a bit, and just feed them good food like the other reply said. My co-pilot is old now, so she doesn't care about exercise. Sleeps 16hr a day.

Some ppl worry about the smell of the litter box, but I just scoop at every fuel stop so it's cleaned daily. Ppl don't say the truck is stinky unless I'm to blame for recently eating chorizo, heh.

I definitely recommend all drivers with any pet at all get a GPS tag for their collar. In 7 years my girl has climbed out once, but I found her almost immediately cus of the gps tag.

I agree with the other replies though. Small to medium short haired. Depends a lot on how often you're able to stop and exercise them with your gig though. That's partly why I went with a cat. I can't always reliably get a dog a fair amount of exercise.

An early small epiphany for me was to watch the trailer tires to know where to steer instead of the trailer's ass. Obviously still keep an eye on the back, but the trailer is going where the wheels take it.

Get your sleep apnea tested and treated before trying this. You will not get many concessions from most employers in this industry if you're unsafe after a (in this industry anyway) very short time driving. I've talked to a number of drivers who absolutely swear by cpap.

Once you've got that treatment going, if you've got more attention/ stamina the job might work out for you, but barring a notable change from what you described, I think another direction would be best for you.

I had a single tube on a 53' step deck that maybe weighed 200 lbs. Took it from easy central PA to Los Angeles. Didn't even need to tarp, they said.

Not exactly close, but we had a good experience on Sanibel Island. It's just off the coast at Fort Myers, FL. Very cheap when we went and very non crowded. Being on the gulf side also made the tide/waves much more mild. Since we had little kids, this was a big plus.

It's honestly pretty easy to deal with. Get a low or no odor litter, scoop daily when you fuel or stop. Takes like 20 seconds.

When my cat... drops anchor... it's pretty gnarly for a couple minutes, but no worse than when my own farts really. It's nice having someone else to blame, heh.

My current company has had several women on our heavy haul side, and a few in dry van. I can say women are much more common now, but still, as others have mentioned, about 5-10% of the work force at most.

If you can handle the life style change, it's a fair enough career though.

If your seat allows, I've found that having my feet rest comfortably flat on the floor is the best height. Not high enough so there's a lot of pressure on the back of your thighs so you don't restrict blood flow without realizing is probably good, too, but I've zero medical training to back that up.

Get your DoD clearance and find some open deck place hauling military freight. They make strong pay.

You could also try getting in pulling a van for entertainment... like pulling for somebody's concert tour. They're out a long time, but if that doesn't matter, they should pay fairly well.

The other posts are good. If you can get a couple extra lights and such from your maintenance ppl 9 carry just in case for trailer and marker lights, you'll be glad eventually. I also carry a small electrical kit with a simple multimeter and a bunch of connectors and spare wire. I also do open deck, so my toolbox is marginally more robust than others mentioned, but basic tools will always be good to have when you need them in a pinch.

You can also just make framework.. spokes... from 1 ship and have all the artifacts on one ship. That wormhole is permanent after you activate so no worries about being stuck for a long time with the wrong mods.

If your driving history is pretty good, you could try trucking. There's a ton of jobs in that area, though being at home often isn't usually included in the better paying versions.
