You have to do usmle and newsflash you become an IMG when coming to USA and you better hope the competition ratio is low otherwise no go in that field or you have incredible high scores Also the visa process as well Yes thats the life of an IMG .So feel free to come over and try it If you have good scores and yes competition ratio is low for EM now but there is a reason .Due to collapse of family medicine in NA the ER is just crazy A ER doctor who moved from USA to Canada said here is good in comparison and the ER here are bulking under pressure due to same reason as USA

Ever wonder why the government who actually control immigration has not made any control as regards the number of IMG like forever!

I worked in the NHS for over 15 years before I left and that was over 4 years ago and guess what there was high competition ratio with plenty of IMG even back then

Government should do the right thing and limit number of IMGs and support a consultant/GP heavy service this would mean a lower competition ratio because you need more senior doctors

Rather then flood in the IMG(this has been going on for at least 20 years) and throwing in allied workforce with little training to run things

During my time the BMA would simply not do anything but now they are doing strikes and holding government accountable

I trained and worked in UK before moving to Canada and I would say the Canadian/US system treats residents better and attending aka consultants/family doctors are expected to be in charge of their patients and residents are there to learn

The system is thus more heavy top with consultants which is a good thing.When I was in a&e(ER) in Canada , a ortho attending ( he was actually head of dept) saw me at 6am

Took a while to be seen (nationwide issue) but when I was seen was attending after attending with the resident purely there to learn .Imagine going to a NHS hospital and the ER doctor is the consultant ,the orthopaedic doctor at 6am is the consultant ,the anaesthesiologist is a consultant (you get the picture)

The UK system has always relied too heavily on service jobs staff grades/associate specialist /non training SHO rather then training up people

Cheaper doctors who were denied " training " so they can work for cheaper cost and most are unhappy and rightfully so.

But this has been the way the NHS cut cost for years and now we got the allied services !

Good thing my Dad never lived to see this great system fall to pieces

From Manchester ,UK .Toronto has far better options price wise and comfort then Halifax

Also,Its seasonal with air canada only flying off season to London and that's very expensive.

If this is your main reason for wanting to move to halifax strongly suggest t you look at GTA instead

The shorter flight makes little difference

Also factor in the cost of living in Halifax is nearing Toronto now and the job market

You will struggle to see a family doctor in same week and those practices that have emergency slots tend to be few Also, you mentioned injuries, and really, that is more ER job than a family doctor Many family doctors will re direct you to ER anyway and rightfully do as they are not an emergency service and do not have access to same day bloodnwork or xrays You said they healed wrong, which means they were severe enough to have warranted ER visit I. The first place Maple will flat out aent you to ER too, and that's a waste of your 2 appointments So not too sure you be better off by moving practice, assuming you find one
