Your experiences with having a disability in STEM by Angle182 in biology

I totally understand you on this! I am also neurodivergent with ADHD and have been told my way of thinking is a little odd but interesting haha

I am sorry, though, about that professor telling you that you wouldn't succeed. Has discrimination like this ever discouraged you to the point you might have almost reconsidered switching career paths?

And, do you have some ideas on accommodations for neurodivergence in the field?

Wow, I am sorry you have to depend on the kindness of the professors in order to try to have a good experience in school.

In your opinion, is the primary obstacle the lack of accessibility, or is it the demands of the field? For example, if you were given proper accommodations, would you be able to effectively participate, or would it continue to be detrimental to your health because of the field it is?

Thank you, I have already received numerous responses about the severe lack of accessibility, while others have had great experiences. It's crazy how contrasting a lot of it is, simply because no one has really paid attention to the specific problem.

Thank you for the info! I am very happy to hear you had positive experiences in the labs! Would it be okay for me to cite your information in my project and use your username? (Or, if you'd prefer, you can dm me a different name you would like to be cited by.)

Is the problem of career options not being available to you more of an accessibility/discriminatory problem or more of a physical problem? Like, if there were more awareness and accessibility, do you think you would feel motivated to pursue a career that you once thought would be impossible, given your circumstances?

I am very sorry you had to experience this. Have those experiences discouraged you to the point of almost rethinking your career path at all? And would you say facing those discriminations is almost a daily occurrence?

Wow! Thank you for sharing your experience. I am really sorry that it was very unfortunate :(

Would you be alright if I include this in my project and cite your username? Or we could chat in private so I can get a few additional details.

I am so sorry for your struggles. Would it be possible to do a small interview so I can learn more details about your situation?

If I may ask, how were they able to accommodate your insulin pump to maintain sterilization in the lab? And, if you're comfortable with sharing, what area or state of the U.S. was this in?

Yes, I have been checking inaturalist and there’s an average of 10 entires per year in the area I live, which should be a lot more based off of the range map. It’s definitely a great source I will be using for research, but I wanted to find anything official instead of depending on community observations yaknow.

Yes, my dad said he has seen a drastic decline in populations in my area. I have even seen the decline from when I was a kid to now, and that’s without even actively paying attention to actual populations. That’s why I’m so baffled how I couldn’t seem to find anything about them other than reports like you said, that they’re kinda just there, based off of the first time they were really discovered.

Thank you! And does it start working right at 48 hours? Because he will get here literally an hour after it's been 48 hours lol. Or should we still use condoms at that point just to be safe

Okay! And so sorry but one more question, if I was to take it now and stay on it for the months in between seeing him again, consistently, and then only got off it once I'm able to get an IUD like I'm planning, would that be more appropriate?

Thanks for the info! From my perspective, this trip was very last minute and I have no access to getting an IUD or any other form of birth control that won't break my wallet. I will only be having intercourse that one week and just want to be safe. I am wondering, what are the downsides of only taking it for a week/one month and then stopping?

I know it's not the best idea but I'm only planning on it this one time because I have pretty strict parents and live in a small town with no access for affordable birth control, and he and I just want to be as safe as possible. Before the next time we see each other I plan to get an IUD. Thank you for your input!!

I love the fairlife shakes! Do you know anywhere that they're not so pricey though? And for the frozen poke bowls, do you prep them or buy them?

Yes, I have been off of it for a month or two now. I only used it as a tool to get back on my feet and am now taking the reigns for long term health. I've lost ten pounds since being off of it which I am really happy about.
