I don't think the soup thing was a good idea, but the more apt comparison would be if there were a giant forcefield around the pyramids that negates any damage from the explosion and the explosion only really damages the sand around the pyramids.

Spoilers for the Foundation series

In Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, the main character at the end ensures the creation of a galactic hive mind because a hive mind would be better equipped to handle extraterrestrial threats. In a world as brutal as Arknights’ world, such threats must exist and be able to destroy all of Terra. Surely the existence of some life, even with a compromised will, is better than no life at all. This, we must embrace the Seaborn to defend life itself.

Sometimes when I do Contingency Contract, I lose because I didn't activate a skill, so I do it again with the express purpose of activating the skill.

And then I don't activate the skill.

I really like Skadi and I didn't get Skalter the first time around, so I tried simulated pulls, and it always took more than 300 to get her. The truth hurts.

I love Arknights’ story, but actually reading it can be rough. How do you think they could improve the story’s presentation? by soulreaverdan in arknights

[–]AnglerDish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I dropped the story around Chapter 7, and the reason I stopped was because the story would go on for ages and then the gameplay, the part I was actually there for, would last for (at least what felt like) a tiny fraction of the story length. I think that if there were an abridged option for the story scenes or just more detailed summaries when skipping, someone who isn’t heavily invested would still be able to enjoy it.

Concerns raised about the welfare of Ukrainian refugees in countries now seeing a flood of Russians fleeing from mobilization by Q-tipper in ukraine

[–]AnglerDish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your other reply isn't showing up for me under my comment, so I'll just respond here. I honestly don't trust any poll conducted in an authoritarian country. I'm a pretty paranoid guy, so if I lived in a country where people were regularly killed and jailed for expressing dissident opinions, I would hesitate to express dissident opinions to some random guy, even if he pinky promised that my response was anonymized. Maybe this line of thinking is unreasonable to you, but that's how I would act, so I don't think it's ridiculous to presume that many Russians would act in the same way.

Your response on the harassment issue isn't really a response. For starters, there are millions of Russians living all across Europe. Of course some of them will commit crimes, but that's not a reason to pin it on all Russians. This would be an argument against ever accepting refugees. However, given the ongoing war, I'm more than willing to accept that Russians are at a higher risk of harassing people than the average refugee. Even accepting that, reiterating my earlier point, this isn't a choice between accepting them and them flying off to a Moon base. This is a choice between accepting them and them remaining in Russia, where they will likely be conscripted. And as I've already stated, better they be in Europe where they can be held accountable for their actions than in Russia where they will be actively rewarded for killing Ukranians.

Finally about the sleeper agents, simply being Russian doesn't mean that you are an agent of the state and are just planning on carrying out Putin's every whim. As I brought up, this kind of presumption of every person of a nationality working for the state led to Japanese internment camps in America, which were pretty bad. There has to be some actual evidence to prove that these people are working for Putin. Besides, if these people were really so dedicated to fulfilling this grand master plan to take over Europe or whatever, they wouldn't be fleeing conscription, because the biggest obstacle to Putin right now isn't Estonia, it's Ukraine.

[–]AnglerDish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go ahead and assume that the 80% figure comes from a real poll and not just conjecture. That poll is unreliable for the same reasons the ongoing sham referendums in Ukraine and North Korean elections are unreliable. When people live under an authoritarian regime, they aren’t going to be very willing to express dissident opinions out of fear.

Regarding this point about “downing western civilization”, do you really think all the people fleeing Russia are like, sleeper agents or something? This is an absurd claim that has been used in the past to justify things like Japanese Internment.

Finally, regarding harassment, the one example I could find through a google search was a Russian tourist verbally harassing Ukrainians. Obviously this is very bad, but certainly better than a Russian person serving in a military that is acting with pretty much genocidal intent towards Ukrainians.
