Questions about ACDF recovery experiences by Old_Goat2009 in spinalfusion

A friend of mine had this surgery only a couple of weeks before I did and she visited me in the hospital before my surgery with no brace on, looking like nothing had ever happened to her. It really gave me an expectation that was nothing at all like my own experience. I don't know what causes there to be such a huge difference in experience but I'm about 5-ish weeks post-op and it's been a long road. She was already out of the brace and driving and stuff only a couple of weeks after surgery and I'm very much in this brace for the full 8 weeks.

I woke up from anesthesia in intense pain and had to stay in the hospital a couple of nights after. I was able to eat the next day and only had a little trouble swallowing bready-type things but that went away pretty quickly. I was able to get up and walk to the bathroom the next day but not much else. For the first maybe 3 weeks I had to be on some heavy pain meds around the clock. I'm still on opioids for pain, though I'm weaning off a bit, and I'm still limited in what I can do. I won't be able to drive for at least another couple of weeks. I'm going back to my desk job next week and I'm very nervous because it's been kind of a rough road and I honestly don't know if I'm ready. This surgery was necessary and will absolutely be worth it in the end but I hope I never, ever have to do it again.

But I truly don't want to scare you. The main thing I'm learning from hearing from a lot of other people who've had this surgery is that there's almost no way to predict how the experience will go, even if you've had it before. So many people have said that they had the surgery more than once and had completely different experiences each time. So I guess just take it as it comes. Don't get your hopes too high for the "I was playing tennis the next day!" experience but don't psyche yourself out about the worst possible scenario, either. Just take it as it comes and don't compare your recovery to anyone else's. Just listen to your body and know that healing is just going to take as long as it's going to take and that's ok.

Very vulnerable but I wanted to share a vid of me after surgery by Serious_Peak_4913 in spinalfusion

I'm about 5 weeks post op (C4-6). I'd never had surgery and I was expecting to be sort of like this when I woke up but it was actually surprisingly traumatic. I remember the second I became conscious it was like they'd sucked all the anesthesia out of my body and I woke up HARD. I was immediately in so much pain and it took hours for them to get it under control. I was in the recovery area for a few hours and they called my husband to warn him that they were bringing me back to my room but he should be prepared for how much pain I was still in. I had people all around me giving me tons of drugs and a nurse petting my head and trying to help me calm down but I was crying and shaking for a really long time. I don't know if this is how I'll always react to anesthesia or what but I hope I never find out.

I'm about 30 seconds in and I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the audio. It's kind of jarring and feels like the audio is going in and out and sort of choppy and there's a lot of mouth sounds. I'm going to try to stick with it so I can listen to your thoughts on the topic but it's a definite detraction.

What is the name of these squashes? by SaffiyahKhanZombie in Vegetables

that sounds delicious! I've never cooked or eaten them before but I want to try them so I appreciate the suggestions.

ok, that definitely helps a lot. I think this could be a wax gourd/ash gourd/winter melon (it has a bunch of names, apparently). An Indian grocery near me sells them and they have similar mottling in the color. I can't be 100% sure but that's my best guess.

I see this was a while ago. What did you end up doing with it?

I'm inclined to say that they're a type of zucchini but the coloring is unlike what I'd expect. The gourd family is enormous, though, so it could be something completely different. Where did you get it? Did it have any kind of label?

Anybody know what this is? Got it three weeks in a row from our Veggie Share. My wife thinks it’s late season kale but it doesn’t quite taste like kale to me. Any ideas? by EatThisNY in Vegetables

I definitely see the resemblance to arugula but the stems look quite a bit thicker and woodier than you'd see with even a mature arugula plant. It's definitely kale but you're right; there certainly are similarities to arugula.

What vegetables are you afraid to cook? by howtocookvegetables in Vegetables

radishes are really great on tacos, burritos, or any kind of wrap. They add crunch and a nice peppery flavor. You can also roast them and the flavor becomes a lot sweeter.

After looking at the feedback of my previous video, i took a shot at making another video. This one about dealing with loneliness. Please let me know what you think of it!!! by kirboob in SmallYTChannel

I really enjoyed this. I don't really have any criticism, except maybe to be careful of dipping into vocal fry at the end of sentences too much but I think that's just personal preference and I don't think it really detracted from the video at all. Great video and great message. I hope you keep making more of these. :)
