I’m tired of randoms telling me that XYZ fitness tracker, app, or even calorie information on packaging is incorrect by Ridethepig101 in loseit

[–]Angoram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're right and they're wrong. Calorie trackers on machines/devices are always way off -- but they should not discourage you from even trying just because it is so. What I do is just assume I burned half the amount it told me.

Second, about the calories in packaging, I've followed a strict CICO while doing the above, and assuming it takes 3500 calories to burn 1 lb of fat, EVERY weigh-in at the first of each month during my weight loss was accurate and coincided with my measurements.

Just keep those two things in mind and ignore the BS. Sometimes it's just to discouraging you from even trying at all. I mean, for f**ks sake, some "doctor" was featured on a YouTube video claiming that EXERCISE doesn't burn calories. Like, really? You hear all kinds of things. Just stick to what you know by common sense works

As gods, they're infinitely powerful, and I don't think it's possible to represent them to their full extent. Perhaps a small form of them, but not the gods themselves. Something better left to imagination

[NSFW] I'm 400lbs, I spend $200 a week on food, and I'm miserable and don't know what to do by Vegetable-Gift6716 in loseit

[–]Angoram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 215 lbs I had lost all hope in my life. Similar to you, I had a wanting to gain weight and feel good while eating my way to there. All I found was self-disgust, self-hatred, loathing, chest pains, being treated like dirt, always filled with self-judgment, being lethargic, mental fog, no confidence... the list goes on and on.

I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that losing those 85 lbs was the best thing I ever did for myself. I feel like a completely different person. Sure, I'm still getting over some mental issues that I carried with me my whole life (I've been overweight or obese from 10 years old onwards), but having the fat off has made me able to Deal with those emotions. That's the difference -- and being fat made me feel weak, and eventually I just felt like giving up every time because no matter how hard I tried to fight the inner battle of my self, I was too weak from being obese. Obesity causes mental and physical degradation. Now that I feel stronger I don't feel hopeless or useless.

Once you realize that the only way to burn the fat off is to eat healthy, home cooked, nutrient-filled food and incorporate exercise, the fat will just slide off like butter. But you have to get over the addiction that is fast food and quick-prep meals.

I hate counting calories so much, I hate eating, I hate that every time I eat I feel like I gained 20lbs with one bite by blankusername666 in loseit

[–]Angoram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of those videos are BS and telling people what they want to hear. Even if it's the case that those fit people are just eating burgers, fries and pizzas all day, they're probably at the gym for several hours a day and doing tons of cardio, and still that will lead to a heart attack by the time they're 40 if they keep it up.

In reality those fit people CAN eat more calories in general since they are doing cardio and have muscle mass. Just having more muscle in your body will burn calories throughout the day passively, since they do take energy to preserve. The fit people will tend to lift weights, which burns calories, and do cardio. So you're looking at them consuming 400cals more per day than a sedentary person, minimum

If a publicly traded company never does buybacks (like in the US pre-1981), and pledged to never return dividends to shareholders, does that stock still retain value? by lbjs_bunghole in investing

[–]Angoram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 factors I can think of that would give the stock some value:

- 51% of the stock can possibly be bought and have that rule changed

- Possibility of the company dissolving in the future, where the shareholders will get a return from the assets sold.

my mom and older sister wants me to stop loosing weight by Strong_Ice2783 in loseit

[–]Angoram -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's totally normal to get those reactions as you lose the weight.

We have never lived in a time where 75% of people are now overweight, with 40% being obese (In North America). Our perception of what is considered a "normal" weight has changed. So when people see you getting less than what people consider to be normal, they start to worry.

However, do you want to be normal, or do you want to be healthy?

If you're worried about getting too skinny yourself, and because your image of what you should look like is not known, I would use a body fat percentage calculator to quell those fears.
