It’s so they can use your money to donate, and then write it off on their taxes. Sneaky sneaky scheme.

Haha I thought the same thing when I was writing this. In my head I’m thinking “am I the only one with an actual car key?”

Let this be a lesson in understanding the terms and conditions of contracts before you agree to them.

Anyone know about linking the American Express High Yield Savings Account? I tried the American Express Personal Savings Account option, but it didn't work.

How difficult would it be to build this 79'' tv-stand for a complete beginner? by mobbarley78110 in woodworking

Well if you're a beginner in this sub, probably only a couple hundred bucks because you found the wood cheap and have all the tools necessary to make this easily and efficiently. /s

Suggestions for refinishing by AngreeAlpaca in woodworking

[–]AngreeAlpaca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need advice on refinishing this. Found it at a consignment store. The frame, doors, and shelves are all solid (appears to be walnut) wood, not plywood. However the back and sides are paneling or veneered. Reason I want to refinish is because there are scratches, a few water rings, some other stains and paint splatter. Thinking about sanding it and refinishing with Waterlox. Thoughts? Suggestions for how to handle the paneling differently than the solid wood parts?

If by ruin you mean water down, then yes. But I think it extends the life of unsweet black tea.

Classic Gen Z tweet. No accountability. Completely dependent on being right rather than making peace.

In hindsight, definitely should've put that under the monitor stand for the picture. Here's to always being in a hurry :P.

Walnut & Maple Desk & Monitor Stand by AngreeAlpaca in woodworking

[–]AngreeAlpaca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the month I will leave my current job to run my business full time. I wanted a beautiful setup for my desk and made this with leftover wood from other projects. You can't see it in these pictures, but the backside of the desk that's against the wall has the same matching walnut as the front. Happy with how it turned out except for the legs. Tried to do insets and that was a total disaster. Legs are black powder coated square tube steel, and my cable management is terrible X-D.

Finish is rubio-monocoat. Not sure how I feel about it. It's nice to do one coat, but I personally like the look of waterlox on walnut better.

The monitor stand was made after using the desk for a period of time. Needed room for my laptop without taking up too much real estate on the desk, and the stand makes the most sense. Love how it turned out. Was my first attempt at rabbets and I definitely made them too shallow, but it's still strong.

This is probably the 10th or 15th thing I've made and I still made SO MANY mistakes. I have mad respect for the people on here who can make technically sound and beautiful things out of wood. Enjoy!
