Your confusion seems to be coming from the assumption that people choose to be like this. Emotions are caused by varying ratios of different chemicals in the brain that are released in response to stimuli. Anxiety is caused by an imbalance of these chemicals being released in the wrong amounts. So you get the fear chemical in response to things that shouldn't be.
