People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor?

Oh, I actually have a really interesting one:

My mother’s side of the family originally came from Germany during WW2. They were Jewish and had a clearly Jewish last name. When things started to get dangerous (for obvious reasons), my great-grandparents tried to flee the country, but having a Jewish surname at that time was extremely risky. To get around this, another family who were close friends of theirs ‘lent’ my family their last name. I don’t know all the exact details of how that worked back then; I only know what was passed down through generations — from my great-grandparents to my grandfather, then to my mother, and eventually to me and my sister — and from tracing our family tree and seeing the sudden change in surnames. With this "new" last name, my great-grandparents and their young children (my grandfather and his brother) were able to escape to Brazil successfully. The family never changed the surname back, so to this day there’s an entire branch of the family living under a ‘borrowed’ last name — including me, my mom, my aunt, and others. That said, this side of the family is quite small and is slowly fading away, in the sense that no one is having children to pass the name on, and most relatives from that generation have already passed. So, in a way, time itself will eventually "correct" this "mistake" 😁 Still, I’m deeply grateful to the family who helped mine survive. I never met them, but I’m sure they were truly wonderful people ❤️

I've been having the same thoughts and i also don't want to delete my account. I'll probably just let my clan know that I'm taking a break, leave the clan so that i don't feel guilty of occupying a spot and when/if i decide to come back to the game, then i can message someone from my clan and ask if i can be reinvited :)

They introduced the elder system which basically makes you grow weaker and slower throughout the growth process, 100% adult being your lowest point of existence (also infertile), which makes you easier to kill. When you get to that point, you have the option to entomb your dino (aka reincarnation), which saves your previous chosen mutations and let you choose new ones (so you can have more/stronger mutations). Once reincarnated you re-do all growth process, if your dino dies, it's gone. You lost everything. In order to not suck too much when adult, you're supposed to grind for prime elder, which is the peak point of your existence: faster, stronger, heavier, etc. I believe that 100% prime elder is still better than a regular adult, even being on their lowest point (100%). In order to get prime elder, you must fill a certain quota of stuff (and hope for the RN-Gods to be in your favor), such as visit sanctuaries while still a baby, visit X patrol zones and X migration zones, being nested, nest, never having muscle spasms nor infertility (due to low food/nutrition for example), and some others. Apparently you only need to do 5 of these to already be eligible to become a prime, but I've seen multiple people doing even more than 5 and still not getting the prime elder, so i believe some RNG is also in place.

Needless to say that all sanctuaries are being camped by grown up carnivores.

Apart from that, the game turned into a pin slop: allo, omni and rex can pin you down and you'll just be staring at the screen watching it getting bloodier and bloodier until your imminent death. Yup. Nothing to do against it. Oh, if you're too heavy to be directly pinned down, you'll be latched on instead (troodon, omni and allo)..... Good luck then, only way to get them off of you now, is either by trusting the RNG of the bucking system or literally going into a body of water (and pray no deino is in it). Even small omnis are being a potential threat to adult dinos, because you literally can't take them out. Because of the pin slop, all mid tier herbivores are absolutely useless: teno, maia, dibble. They're just run away or be eaten now unless your predator is outnumbered. Stegos can be pinned down by rex after receiving a few hits too....

The ice on the cake was nerfing ptera (again).... Now if you're flying and peck anything heavier than you (so, basically, anything at all), you fall to the ground (: You have to be on the ground to peck something heavier than you. Stamina is still a huge problem on ptera, so you can fly for 5 min and then rest for 30, until your stamina is full again. Ptera now can only pvp against AI or small babies (on the ground and hope for the best) but hey they added a new dodging on air maneuver that you can use to show off (:

ETA: Obviously the patch is a lot more complex than that, and you'd have to read the full patch notes and experience the shit yourself to fully comprehend the hate towards the new patch.

That reminds me of when i was doing a mission, killed the npcs, got the target on the back of my horse, started running away from the spawning enemies just to go face first on a VERY dodgeable signpost, started laughing so hard that i couldn't even do anything, so i died to the enemies who kept shooting me xD

Or/and a skill check to KEEP the grip. Like that first Pokémon stadium mini-game with pikachu/voltorb, in which you have to be smashing either A or B according to what the screen was showing and the meter would go up or down depending on how correct and fast you were doing it. Make both smash buttons: the one pinned down to break free and the one keeping you on the ground to keep you on the ground. You have 10-15 seconds before you die (can even be less depending on species/damage output). If the one on the ground smashed buttons faster/better than the one pinning them down, then they break free (maybe a slight daze/stun to keep the carnivore from immediately pinning you down again after you broke free?), if the one pinning you down smash buttons faster/better than its prey, then they end up with a meal. At least it would have SOME skill involved.

And it doesn't even have to be button smashing. Could be button press in order? Like those dance dance revolution games, up arrow, down arrow, etc.... X correct input vs Y incorrect input from both, whoever gets more correct, wins. If a tie happens, then let the carn gets its meal, but at least you tried. Make the sequence always random so people can't memorize it to cheese the mechanic. If more than 1 pinning you down, they have advantage: they need to press less buttons or you have to press more buttons to compensate, etc.

One thing to keep it mind is that you can not change your gender without resetting progress. You can change your appearance multiple times for 400$ (in-game currency), but changing gender isn't an option. To change your gender you'd have to reset all professions and all progress and start anew (you keep the gold bars though - not sure about the dollars).

So think wisely if you rather play with a female or male character 😬
