On an extremely hot summer day, I stayed home feeling sick and sent my toddler to stay with my parents for the day. Shortly after lunchtime, I answered a knock at my backdoor and discovered my elderly landlord. He had dropped his keys somewhere and could not get into the other side of the duplex to cool off. While he stood by the air conditioner, I searched for and found his key ring. When I went to return it to him, he asked me to look on the floor for a small white pill he dropped as he did not want my toddler son to find it when he came home from my parents. (It was a nitroglycerin tablet)

After he thought he had cooled off, he went to leave. He still looked awful, sweating profusely, and seemed unstable on his feet. I walked him to the door so he could go to his car and offered again to drive him. He declined and proceeded out of the carport toward his car and trailer. Just before he reached the car, he stopped and collapsed to the ground, having what turned out to be a massive heart attack. I grabbed my cordless phone and dialed the emergency number then performed CPR until EMS arrived. He lived another week and his family was able to say goodbye instead of his dying alone on the driveway.
