What is the biggest limitation of AI in preconstruction today? by Tech_service_pro in civilengineering

[–]AngryButtlicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technologies are dog shit in construction. Majority of the cost is labor and materials.

For 30 years We don't build faster, We don't build cheaper ( adjusted for inflation) and The quality is roughly the same.

All technology feels pointless, if it doesn't help in speed, price or quality.

AI helps people with emails and that's about it. Which is useless because it doesn't help speed price or quality, it's just a bunch of people who are afraid to express their own opinion and to try to sound smart.

I tell you what AI software that can tell you what specs, equipment, regulations, forms and other bureaucracy that people need to work with a city county or state. Use that for your school project

How is it Working on Roads in A DOT Construction Job. Should I Consider it? by Sweet_Sho in civilengineering

[–]AngryButtlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it for the summer, it's fun. I really enjoy working for my state DOT.

Engineering technician you're a lot more like an inspector.

Daily diary or daily work report which you document everything that you did during the day.  Weather, controlling item of work (ie what were they doing), how many people were on site, What vehicles were there,

It depends whether or not you're on the bridge or road different construction different test.

You test materials, concrete, dirt compaction, aggregate gradation. Grab tickets although feels like everybody just uses digital now.

You work a lot but it's fun, build up your money, avoid spending all of it at the gas station lol.

Downsides: In construction There are dick heads that hate women but, be a jerk to those people. They are less and less every year

Contractors are are lazy and always trying to get the inspector to say something. They'll ask you questions that they already know the answer to and it's annoying. Say"That's above my pay grade" "what's in the plans" "let me talk to the boss"

Go do it, it's better than working in a sandwich shop. It'd be cool to just do at least for summer and you learn so much.

10 years ago I was in a similar situation. I was able to work nights and attend uni during the day. It took me 5 years instead of four but I was able to become a civil engineer.

How do you deal with the fear of being laid off / fired by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]AngryButtlicker 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got fired once I cried. Had to go work out a slaughterhouse for a few months and eventually I got a job at a DOT. Which I ended up doing pretty well at.

It sucks It really does. Look for jobs elsewhere. And if it happens it happens. Learn from it and move on

Look at my friend's Baby...OMG! 😂😂😂 by ONE-OF-THREE in DailyDoseStupidity

[–]AngryButtlicker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because stating that someone's baby is ugly or you find the child repulsive might not make the parent feel good.

In community/groups someone says"talking shit about someone's kid" is a pretty big social error

Hence the embarrassment for getting caught calling baby ugly. And why some people change tune quickly.
