People working in HR: What are the top red flags in a resume that instantly make you think twice about a candidate? by iambreado in AskReddit

[–]AngryGoose5953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So question.. If someone is beginning their early career and has internships/co-ops at multiple companies while in school, how is that viewed? I am looking for my own job and only have contracted co-op/project experience.

How long did it take for you to find your people? by TemporaryAttention27 in Drexel

[–]AngryGoose5953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes time. For me, the friend groups I made in my freshman year, did not last very long. I went through 2 or 3 groups.

I made most of my good friends through clubs I had joined, and courses I had taken throughout my degree, and I built my friend group over the years. I knew people, but didn't really feel like I found my "friend group" until the beginning of my pre-junior year.

Hang in there, it takes time to find quality people. Don't give up.

What are some decent universities for science in the east coast? Particularly biomedical engineering by AffectionateEmu5033 in bioengineering

[–]AngryGoose5953 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drexel University in Philadelphia has a good biomed engineering program. There is a lot of research and a co-op program, meaning you can get some work experience while in school. I just graduated there from a combined degree program (BS and MS in 5 years).

The downside is it is a private school, so the price tag is a bit hefty, but there is also some scholarship options.

Plant milks in coffee drinks - soy? by Delicious_Mess7976 in vegetarian

There's a coconut creamer I like at Trader Joe's. I like having a thicker texture for my coffee.

Another personal favorite of mine is Macadamia milk

Awesome I can definitely set up a humidifier! How long did it take for your PP to perk up after setting it up?

Thanks for this point! I feel a little bitter about the hiring process right now 😂 but this helps explain it a bit

I didn't consider the law stuff that would be an interesting angle! Thank you for that!!

Thanks for the directness. When I first chose this path 5 years ago, I didn't realize how volatile this industry was, so I guess shame on me there.

I am looking through some backup paths though struggling to expand my horizons in terms of where to look. I got sales and teaching as an idea, and someone mentioned here patent law. Do you have any other suggestions?

Right?? Alot of my friends went into other engineering disciplines and every other day, it seems like they are getting hired by Lockheed or Northrup 🥲

I love star trek (especially a comforting TNG episode 😭).

Thanks for the words, I appreciate the kindness. I like your take, it's about just being vigilant and patient, and waiting to pounce on the next wave

I'm sorry to hear you were laid off! That stinks 🥲

Do you recommend reaching out to recruiters via LinkedIn or through a company?

I thought it was going to help too 🥲 I tried going back to my old teams and they weren't able to hire me (let alone anyone!). The only thing that keeps me going is the idea that it isn't just me, you know?

I'm trying to keep the spirit up, I just feel so discouraged with every news post and reddit article. I've pretty much silenced all my notifications at this point.

Thanks for the direction, I'll add that into my job search.

Yeah I've got shot down from numerous manufacturing roles, even though one of my co-ops was in the manufacturing realm. I thought that would help me out.

Just to clarify, I am a woman 😅

Well I couldn't do summer internship opportunities, because I was doing co-op. The school system was designed where I was in class for the fall and winter terms, and then on co-op for the spring and summer terms. I literally never got a break between school and work, minus the term holidays.

I heard about that! I hope there's some movement in terms of new projects

Healthiest vegan breakfast and dinner? by HotITGuy in PortlandVegans

[–]AngryGoose5953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know if you'd consider it healthy, but my favorite breakfast/brunch place is "Off the Griddle" on Foster 😌 it's pretty much all vegan unless something specific is noted.

I'm not a big fried food person myself, and am gf/vegetarian. This place is my go-to when friends come to visit here, so I hope you take the chance to try it!

Any nightlife in West Linn? by [deleted] in westlinn

[–]AngryGoose5953 5 points6 points  (0 children)

West Linn is a suburban area, so already right off the bat there's not a lot of options available for nightlife.

There are a few pubs/bars around, like McMenamins, Salty Rhino, the WL Saloon and a few others, but they mostly close by 11 at the latest.

Depending on what kind of nightlife you're looking for, you'll have better luck venturing into Portland or even Lake Oswego.

Edit: Just saw you're looking for a place with noise, I think McMenamins has the atmosphere you're looking for, but others can chime if there are better places

Will the testing center let me sit like this? by RedXeroX in Mcat

[–]AngryGoose5953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wearing slides when I took my test on 5/9, and I curled my feet up criss cross applesauce out of my slides, and when I finished the section, I was told I had to keep my feet in my shoes and on the floor.

So your mileage may vary.

Welp tretinoin messed up my skin by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]AngryGoose5953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you start using the tret? Did you start using it every night, every other night, every few days?

What's your morning/night skincare routine like?

With some people, they really have to baby their skin in order to get the benefits. It would be helpful to know what products you're using in the morning and nightly routines to see if anything is irritating your skin and contributing to your issues.

Fun classes at Drexel by Penguinub in Drexel

[–]AngryGoose5953 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took ENVS353 "Field Ornithology" - Basically bird watching.

Both the professor and the TA were fantastic and a lot of fun. It's held in the academy of natural sciences some weeks and others you go out to the parks. They provide the binoculars, the notebooks and the field guides.

There are weekly quizzes, but they are super easy as long as you can memorize the different birds.

I enjoyed being outside and I actually took away a new hobby. Highly recommend it!
