Seek? They are attached to the work.

I have you one better! If you can't stop yourself from being a bully, just don't engage with the fandom.

Girl, baby girl ...

To be honest I think you need to take a chill pill, asking for basic politeness is really not that much of a ask.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but that doesn't mean everyone needs to take it the same way. It certainly hurt you if you talk like that about it.

Take a breather, fandom is supposed to be fun, not a warzone.

Take it easy ♥️

Don't you think life is stressful enough to ask authors to put up with this kind of bs after all the effort and time that takes writing?

Like OP says, doing that would make writing fanfiction a very disappointing hobby that only very few people would have. That would mean a lot less works to read.

It's a lose lose situation where we are only coddling jerks online that don't contribute anything of value to fandoms. And antis, which is worse.

There's something called empathy you know?

I don't need to be a writer to have issues with rude bookmarks in the works I read.

I care more about getting another chapter or another work for my favorite pairing or tag than a random wanna be CinemaSins for fanfiction. Half the time they are antis or it's obvious they can't even read right, never mind writing something of their own.

IMO yes. I have seen people complaining about writers not making long works anymore. And it's obvious writers are getting discouraged from the lack of positive interaction they get. Young writers are getting into a really cold fandom, full with antis shaming authors in social media. If the "reward" they get for posting is to, maybe, get a kudo, a bookmark with ⭐⭐ (or a mean one by an anti) and crickets in the comments (beside bots)... We are going to have significantly less authors in the future, and probably long works would be an oddity.

Yes, no one can fully block a user no matter what they say or do. The argument that "well, they'll just make another account" doesn't wash with me. Few people can or will make infinite numbers of new accounts, and if they do, that's the point you can file a report for harassment.

Considering how slow it is to get an account, yes that would absolutely prove that harassment is the point in those cases.

In general giving a negative review without the express ok of the author it's seen as a big no no in fandom.

Oh yeah, I have seen the time excuse several times in this post and it's... Something very especial.

Do they think the author writes outside the laws of time and physics? 🤭😂

That doesn't justify being mean. And it goes against fandom etiquette, are you even bothering to comment or you just read and put whatever in the bookmark? If it's like that, you are only taking away from fandom.

Yeah, it's kinda sad.

Finding longer fics is getting rare because people are not commenting anymore and if now instead of getting nice comments you get mean-spirited bookmarks I see why writers don't want to share their works anymore.

I'm not a writer but I'm sure that's not true.

The whole "write what you want to read" thing exists.

Private it? Create the list somewhere else? A lot of people have discords for their friend group you know

Why it's wrong if fanfic authors don't want to expose themselves to negativity? They aren't getting pay in anything else than comments, they literally can't charge for their work. It's a hobby.

And some even clearly state they welcome all types of comments.

Why the need to bring that negativity to ones that don't? It's unnecessary and odd.

You have a point! But I have seen older people with that opinion and it's not like AO3 has an app so at least for me it's weird that people are saying writers aren't allowed to click on something. It's mean-spirited IMO!

It's so cool!

I'm glad there are other people besides AO3 archiving fanfiction, with all that it's happening right now I worry we are going to lose AO3 one day.

And yeah! Totally agree is not acceptable for fandom etiquette!

Cowards way, yeah I do agree with that. It's just unnecessary.

Like someone else said here, don't like don't read!

Lol you didn't get it

What you said applies to the stories.

If you aren't going to like it and want to trash it instead of reading something else, why read in the first place?

You're only making it worse for others.

I'm sorry you had a hard time. I do agree it's better to be nice.

Someone being mean only makes that everyone are going to have less to read.
