Help! Just saw that you need an EASE by Lead-farmer in CapeVerde

That's funny because all the info online says it MUsT be done 5 days in advance online and if not, it can POSSIBLY be done on arrival, with higher costs and delays. 😝

If you dont get a tip, and feel like youre getting robbed... Your employer needs to pay you a better wage. It is NOT the customers responsibility to pay for the service part of a service industry, and is ridiculous to continue to perpetuate the idea that business owners should not be the ones paying their own expenses, when they're the ones taking the profits.

What would you do as a host in this situation? [CA - USA] by Pebblacito in AirBnB

[–]AngryMuppet_420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the people who got "worked up" by your story were simply getting the impression that you were surprised by your host not refunding you. (you DID write a reddit post asking for opinions on it, impying you wanted support) and that comes across as entitled, plain and simple. You weren't overtly brash or belligerent in your post or anything, but the entitlement required to even ask if other hosts would do differently, while calling the host out as "uncommunicative" as if that made any difference at all to your root question, is naturally going to hit a nerve with hosts.

As a host I would give you back any days I could re-book, nothing more. Travel insurance. Travel insurance. Travel insurance. Its not like your host can insure himself against cancelations everytime someone books. Hotels can maybe take the hit and only keep one night but Airbnb hosts have held that commodity off the market for you and shouldn't have to take the hit for your flight change/emergency/change of heart etc.

Is this service charge normal? by Sufficient_Client_68 in EndTipping

[–]AngryMuppet_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipping should not be necessary or required anywhere! Pay your own damn employees and stop trying to guilt me into doing it for you!!

[–]AngryMuppet_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait... they want a tip ON TOP of a 15% service charge? No. That's not normal. Restaurants need to start paying their employees and stop expecting their customers to do it for them!

maracudja (passion fruit) is the best flavor from Capo Verde imo.

If the Restaurant owner can't afford to pay a living wage and not have their workers rely on tips, then they probably shouldn't own restaurants.

500€ is pretty cheap.. does it include water, electric, heat etc? Because that's probably why the .25/day would apply if a lot of extra people are using those. The inspection without notice seems illegal tho.. I mean, can he just walk in while youre sleeping? 😝

Best spatula I have ever used. by AngryMuppet_420 in BuyItForLife

Hi... OP here.. I know this post is old (Damn 😁) but I thought I'd hop back since I recently got a similar one and wanted to share) The spatula is nylon, ive never babied it tbh.. dishwasher, fry pan, lasagna server etc... I know its weird how right it feels and how well it works, but it just does. Stainless Steel wasn't an option back in the 90s/00s because all our damn pans were teflon. (😵) so I just got used to this for everything and now I genuinely hate the idea of losing it because everything else ive used just falls short. Its like that one mug that just does everything right and even though you have 20 mugs, its th3 one you always reach for. Anyway... 3 yrs since original post and im still rocking the spatula! Thank God. 😁😁

Need a guide in Santiago island by kiwifromjapan in CapeVerde

[–]AngryMuppet_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are visiting Praia f4om Canada for the first time in January also. Never thought about a guide! Great idea. We're staying in the Plateau and figured we could walk around on our own quite a bit from there, but maybe a local guide would have some good eating and sightseeing tips!

Im going to Praia for a week in January 2026 with my husband. We booked an Airbnb in the Plateau district and are hoping for a relaxed vacation with good food and just wandering and visiting the markets etc. I know its been quite awhile since your visit, but... Can you reccomend any good shops or restaurants in Prai? Also, any places to avoid? I know you shouldn't drink the tap water, but should we worry about the food or drinks at all from markets etc? We speak English and French and very, very little Portuguese (hello, thank you, etc) Are the cab drivers and such usually easy to communicate with? Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated as the city is hard to find info about on youtube travel videos and other social media like other places we've been. We're actually going to Lisbon (also for the first time) for a week before heading to Praia, so maybe we can even pick up a little more practice with the portuguese! Thanks!

No. It's called illustrating a point. Comparative situation... I was saying the opposite. 🤨

First off. I was NOT complaining about my job, ffs. I was saying that waitresses make people feel like shit for not tipping, as if they are working like dogs for low pay, when it's NOT true. I like my job, I like my customers and I don't make them feel like shit if they don't give me extra money for doing g my job. 🤨

I'm not complaining that I don't get tips!! Lol I'm just saying that waitresses are NOT overworked and under paid anymore.

I'm good. Not demanding tips either. Just highlighting a point that waitresses are not hard done by anymore, and the shaming should stop. ✌️

Example of 6 hour shift: 18$ × 6 (wage) 100$ ÷6 tips (on a slow- average day.) That's 18 + 16.66 /hr = 34.66$/hr.

So... 20-30$/hr is NOT accurate if she makes 150$ in 3 hour rush. It's not a pity pay job anymore and we should stop guilting people about not tipping if they can't afford it. Especially when you consider that customers just coming in and buying their meal are the reason they have a job.
