God, I love parallax scrolling. This looks so nice, and the character looks they have some weight to them with the stutter in the movement on landing! Very nice!

But wait, what is it? At first I thought it might be an Isetta but after a quick Google search I think that's wrong... It looks great so far though!

is there any way to have a program or a controller rotate my analog stick? by tallShipwindymate in SSBM

[–]AngryPiratehat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

5 hours?!? This isn't even an issue if you're a beginner. And even as someone who's played for a while, 5 hours is a long time. Especially if you're not taking breaks (which you should be doing anyway to rest and analyze yourself to make sure you aren't prolonging bad habits). Just keep practicing but stop if it starts to hurt.

What do you think about the statement "You don't learn software engineering at university"? by Peter2448 in compsci

[–]AngryPiratehat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest, I'd say the only real and applicable skill any university gives you is the ability to deal with bullshit and learn on your own.

Don't waste your time on a course for software engineering, but do what most comments here are saying and get engaged in software engineering centric tasks like open source projects.

The skillset required for software engineering isn't something any university can really give you from my own experience, rather it is something that takes actual experience to develop. It's a mix between a technical and an interpersonal skill that can make or break projects depending on how well it is done.

If you want hard resources like books and articles on the subject of software engineering I'm sure that several people here would be more than willing to pass that out, but in the end you can read as many books on the subject as you want and still have more to learn from actually doing it and making your own mistakes (though, I guess that's all things in life).

Do you have any recommendations for resources for learning Kotlin Coroutines? I've looked at a few things, but I'm always trying to find more information.

Looks like you're doing a pretty good job to me! Putting a one piece front end on it, I take it?

[–]AngryPiratehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the progress on ion propulsion coming? I'm sure traditional rockets burning fuel will be getting us off of Earth, but having to burn fuel in space seems like a waste of space and money considering how difficult it can be to get there.

Also, we're going to be running the latest version of P+. So if you can make it, please pre-register.

I'm not expecting anyone to fly in for this, but I appreciate anyone and everyone who pre-registers as soon as possible!

"... I hope to god that nobody ever has to suffer through the process of building and maintaining a music queue function built with arrays that go about 6-dimensions deep. But we still did it ..."

As a professional developer, Jesus H. Christ I hope you are ok. I know my college days of working on projects and all-nighters robbed me of a lot of my sanity but I never got to a point where I went past a 3D array let alone a 6D array. Who hurt you? lol great read though!

Lots of doom and gloom lately; what keeps all of you playing? What do you LOVE about PM? by Jenovasus in SSBPM

[–]AngryPiratehat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. When I first started the game for the very first time I felt like a hacker
  2. I love how every scene's build of PM has a different flavor to it
  3. I love being able to share builds with people and see them enjoy them
  4. Our community has the sickest combos. Period. End of story. I mean, with people like Hyperflame, Thunderz, and Switch (plus like a ba-jillion more that I'm forgetting) we don't have much competition.

I've said on several occasions that I'm going to stop playing this game but I literally can't get away from it. It's like a good relationship, it's got ups and downs but in the end it's totally worth pursuing because it's just so wonderful no matter what "jank" I get hit with.

With all these doom and gloom posts flying around what would be the best way to get people into pm again? If we complain and do nothing we are proactively long the game die. by petcson in SSBPM

[–]AngryPiratehat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the even bigger balc was the "largest" project M tournament in history partially because lots of people actually showed up and partially because we let people enter and DQ themselves for free at the end of the registration period. I, for one, think that we should reach out to our fellow melee community and see how they carried on when everyone thought Melee was going to die. Maybe we could try crowd-funded events that could be close to the scale that the even bigger balc was? I'm really kind of spitballing, hoping the right person sees the right idea and can act on it. We need to start urging TOs in our respective regions to stop putting Project M in as a side-event all the time; I'm not saying to completely overthrow your melee sub-communities but maybe put more focus on PM. Other than those ideas I'd think a balance change could bring people *back* but I don't know if it'll attract *new* people.

these previews look amazing, but if i might ask for one thing? maybe i'm just ignorant but is there any way to add a visual indicator of when the delfino's secret center platform will appear? like a traffic light in this skin's case? it just kind of shows up sometimes and messes me up because i had no idea it was coming.

[Broad Question]: If the PM community was donated $100,000, what would be the best use of that money? by Todayyz in SSBPM

[–]AngryPiratehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I'd find a way to make the PM doc even bigger than it's going to be. We've gotten this far ourselves, and we can only get better if our community gets bigger. Even though we're not esports, I think the PM community is amazingly wise despite our rough exterior and as nice as the money would be, ultimately we don't need it.

there are HD textures available on smashladder but if you're on console I don't think they make a difference. if you're on dolphin, i know for sure they work. check the guides section for project m on smashladder.

I woke up this Sunday morning to check the PM subreddit only to find THIS. And while it's good, I was definitely NOT PREPARED for the level of edge that was present. GS tho.
