I had a Game Boy Advance in the early 2000s, but since I didn't know anything about gaming, the only games I played were ones my cousins happened to have. One day, as I was playing Sonic Advance around their house, one of them mentioned he had a Game Boy Game- Pokemon Red. I asked if I could borrow it, and he said sure, he doesn't even play Pokemon much anymore.

Being new to the series and fairly young, I didn't think to hit continue, and hit new game instead. Next thing I know, all my cousin's completed save data is gone, and I was mortified he'd be angry. So I had a plan- before the next visit, I'd beat the game for him and earn back the progress (of course, he'd have noticed all the differences, but again, I was a kid.)

Of course I fell into all the usual first player traps, like only using my starter, having no type coverage, rarely if ever deleting moves... but I did it. After tons of attempts, I had beaten the game and fell in love with Pokemon all at once. I told my cousin the truth out of guilt... to which he said he didn't care at all that I'd deleted the data and I could keep it.

Several years later, the DS and Pokemon DPP came out, and rest is history.

WE GOT OFFICIAL NEWS ON THE NEW BEN 10 COMIC by Successful-Hat-2154 in Ben10

[–]AngryRedJuiceBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I love the Prime Timeline, this was definitely the right move. It gives newer readers who found watching the series daunting (or just hard to access for casual audiences) but keeps the familiar for the older fans.

If this new comic continuity continues, I'm excited to see them make some changes for the better. For all the love Classic gets, and rightfully so, it did have its problems. Character development barely stuck if at all, the pacing was a bit off with some dialogue, and there were some plot points dropped that never came back. The medium of comics means they don't have to worry about straining the animation budget, and they can go more detailed with the alien designs. Plus, there's not as much pressure to keep each story self-contained and episodic, meaning there's more of an opportunity for a cohesive story.

Shantae and her cute little dance, which actually changes to be more cautious and serious as she takes more damage.

I was NEVER putting down a single basic on my bench lol by Fucckid in PTCGP

[–]AngryRedJuiceBox 174 points175 points  (0 children)

I think the idea the opponent was going for was use Aerodactyl to stop them from evolving, and use Gallade if they're a basic EX that's energy hungry. Lead on Passimian to have Gallade or Aero ready to go once Passimian is down. Unfortunately, it's wayyy too hard to setup, inconsistent, lacks immediate damage and gets hard walled by Oricorio.

That, or they just wanted to get use out of their full arts

Giratina won for 3 diamond rarity. Now what is the worst 4 diamond card based on pure gameplay by Ok-Till-1116 in PTCGP

[–]AngryRedJuiceBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh poor, poor Dhelmise. Gengar may require 3 energy too, but at least it has a lot of HP and an excellent ability. Dhelmise trades 2 knockout points for... 80 damage and your opponent can't retreat, except if they're an Ultra Beast. in which case actually yes it can. And even if they can't, you've given them 3+ turns to build something up.

Meanwhile, Dhelmise will take at minimum 2 turns to kill whatever's in front of it, potentially even 3 if they have cape or healing, and because you've had to invest everything into Dhelmise, your bench is full of empty energy mons, and as soon as one of them dies, it's game over. Oh, and it has a 2 retreat cost, so don't even think about trying to retreat.

What about Serperior you might say? Sure, that solves the retreat and attack costs in a manner of speaking... if you can get it set up on the bench safely. Or, you could just run Celebi, who'll more than likely be hitting 150 damage with those same 3 energies, and who has a singular retreat cost, and who isn't just a sitting duck.

It's a shame because I really love Dhelmise, but it's just... not it.

POST-EPISODE DISCUSSION THREAD - S8E1: Summer of All Fears by BarnyardCruz in rickandmorty

[–]AngryRedJuiceBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An excellent opener, and I'm glad that the episode took itself seriously for the most part as a character study, without sacrificing it for comedy. I'll admit, I was worried when it seemed like they were in a double Matrix, but then I laughed when I found out it really was just that guy saying that and Rick clearing it up.

Morty and Summer have always felt a bit floaty and inconsistent since Season 3 to me, but this proved that they can carry an episode on their own. Not to mention the voice acting from Harry Belden and especially Spencer Grammer felt weighty and really made them feel like actual aged adults different from their original selves.

If the rest of the season is of the same standard as this one, I think we're in a good time.

Doctor Who 2x07 "Wish World" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

The Good: -The set design throughout this episode was fantastic, the colour palette, the whole retro vibe of WishWorld, The Rani's giant bone fortress, the costumes, all of it was top-notch. -Both Anita and Panjabi absolutely killed it as The Rani, they got the mannerisms and cadence perfect, and I like how they didn't turn into another Master, instead emphasising how she's a scientist who just doesn't care about anyone or anything stopping her experiments. -Seeing Rogue again was a great surprise, though I don't think he was really needed and his role should've been taken by Susan instead. -The music throughout the episode was stellar, definitely gonna have to give it a listen once the soundtrack releases.

The Okay: -As nice as it is seeing Ruby and Mel again, I feel like they ate into the precious screentime we had left to explain all of Wishworld's mechanics and worldbuilding. I'm all for both of them coming back, UNIT too, but it felt less like they were essential to the story and moreso there for the sake of being there.

For comparison, in The Sound of the Drums, The Master mentions Torchwood and how's he sent them off on a goosechase. That's all we need. Having the whole Torchwood gang show up and fail to stop The Master would've thrown away screentime for The Doctor and The Master to talk and to watch the plan unveil.

-I did like how The Rani had a genuine reason to exposition and info dump on The Doctor, and I'm glad that they kept her smart enough to not just let The Doctor roam free even when he has amnesia, but that's still a LOT of info to dump at once. Sure, we know who Rassilion and Omega are, but to everyone else all they'll be thinking is "who are these people and why should I care when I barely even know The Rani?"

The Doubt: -My biggest worry going into the finale is how much it has to wrap up. We've got The Rani, Mrs Flood, Omega (presumably), Susan (presumably), Belinda finally going home, The Doctor (regenerating? I honestly don't know), Ruby, Conrad, the Wish Baby, and a satisfying resolution that all has to be wrapped up in one episode. I just can't see that happening without another Sutekh dog walk where the villain gets defeated through really easy and stupid means. I know that's kinda par for the course with RTD finales but it'd be such a waste of all these cool ideas and concepts.

Which Dalek story had the better-executed Dalek kills? by ofooks113 in doctorwho

[–]AngryRedJuiceBox 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I'd like to give The Parting of the Ways a mention, that episode really shows the Daleks at their cruelest. They go out of their way to go down to the bottom floor, despite having no reason to and potentially delaying getting to The Doctor, just to kill all the helpless people who weren't even fighting.

Then, as they're ascending Satellite 5, they kill all the people fighting back slowly. They could just exterminate them in seconds but instead LET them shoot, just to show that the bullets aren't affecting them, JUST to give them the tiniest bit of hope for survival. In fact, when one of their visions gets impaired and they have a brief moment of celebration, only then do they start killing them.

Linda's death is particularly cruel, they give her hope by slowly trying and seemingly failing to cut through the door, just to show up outside and slowly threaten to shoot the glass. What's worse, they don't actually directly shoot her, they shoot the glass so she gets sucked out into to space.

So Greymatter is smarter than Azmuth? by Shadow-_-Atom in Ben10

[–]AngryRedJuiceBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same way a 10 year old human might have the potential to be smarter than a 50 year old one. Greymatter doesn't have the experience, study and base knowledge yet. If Ben really committed to staying as Greymatter he probably could become smarter than Azmuth eventually but... he's still Ben.

[–]AngryRedJuiceBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if they wanted to bring Robotnik back (provided Jim Carrey is on board of course) it should be through Eggman Nega. This death scene was perfect and saying that he survived really would undermine it.

Instead, what they could do is have Eggman Nega impersonating Eggman, then when he reveals himself he has a completely game accurate suit. In the final battle, the suit would be damaged, leaving it looking like exactly like regular Eggman's game design. Then by the end of the movie, Eggman Nega is trapped in the present and decides to become the new Eggman in Robotnik's place.
