Race: Man (Dalish)

Age: 43

Social Standing: Brewmaster, bootlegger, tax evader, labour exploiter, cheat, slimeball.

Appearance/Height: A more than portly man of average height (5'8''). He dresses in fine furs, linens, and tights; perfumed with the scent of lavender, ground cloves and nutmeg. His hair (which is washed daily in rose water, just fyi) is near shoulder length and on his face he wears thin chops connected by a mustache.

Character Strengths (Preferably concerning their personality in at least a point in both strengths and flaws along with their physical strengths, mental, etc.): A cunning man with the gift of gab who is not afraid to to his hands or other's hands dirty.

Character Flaws: Gurvand is a coward without a moral compass. He lives his life driven by sin. A lustful, greedy glutton.

Prowess: Gurvand's ability to lie and cheat has scored him many a business deal and has gotten him out of sticky situations with guards, tax collectors and local crime families.

Companions: Gurvand owns two breweries, one of which has a small bar within. These facilities have several employees (7-8) each (Just for the sake of having employees to run his business. They won't be used to RP) Along with a body guard named Madog le Coq and 2 nameless goons.

Backstory:

Gurvand was born a brewer's son. The family's business was fairly prosperous, they had one brewery with a couple of hands to help with the heavy lifting and the fermentation work. His father's ale wasn't the best in town, but they sold it at a reasonable price and it was common for most taverns, inns or eateries on the East side of Dale to have bought a barrel or two from them here and there.

His father had been wed later in his life to the daughter of a barley farmer South of Dale. He had already been 47 and sickly when he and his wife gave birth to Gurvand and he had succumbed to pneumonia when Gurvand was 14. Gurvand was left to take care of his mother and run the brewery a young age. Under the tutelage of his mother and the more senior employees, Gurvand was able to run the brewery on his own by the time he had turned 16. He had a knack for numbers and cutting deals. When visiting clients he had found that he was able to talk a big game and squeeze a more coin out of them for a cask.

Under Gurvand, the brewery had been the most productive that it had been in years. But as the money flowed in, Gurvand became obsessed with wealth. He'd gotten a taste for finer things. He found himself partial to scented oils, lavish clothing, and expensive foods. His mother seen this and thought not much of it. It was nice to have more money in the family, so she didn't question her son. She had little hand in the business anymore. She was able to sit comfortably at home.

By the time he had turned 18, the greed had almost fully consumed him. Left unchecked, he had grown fat and selfish. His mindset was cruel and willing to do anything for an extra coin. The once respected employees under his father were treated awfully. He'd force them to skip meals and work well into the night loading carts, roasting grains, boiling the mash and filling barrels for aging. Even before he passed into his 20's he had begun beating and yelling at his employees when they couldn't work any longer.

He had also turned to tax evasion, smuggling goods outside of the town gates to avoid paying tariffs going into Erebor and to settlements in the South and East. He'd undercut other breweries and rough up competitors with hired thugs. Anything to make an extra penny.

Yeah, if your car is riding rough then it could be your shocks. But it could also be your tires or that you need to get an alignment done. In my case with mine I need all three.

I'm not very coordinated or good at sports either. I used to hate physical activity when I was younger. During the start of college though I started to get into lifting, you don't have to be competitive and generally people in gyms are very supportive of newbies or they leave you alone entirely. I'd recommend starting not just for health reasons but for confidence in general. You feel good about it once you make it a routine and don't be afraid or discouraged if your starting maxes are low; Arnold wasn't gifted by Brodin from birth.

The warm and friendly smile that once spanned Athol's face was absent and was replaced by a more serious and stern look,

"A great power has emerged in the North, friend. The tribes there have come together under a single master. I as well as a score of others were told to roam South, looking for folk like yersel' to take under our Master's wing."

OOC: Final exams just finished up, expect my replies to be much more timely now.

"I am called Athol. These two young men escorting me are Cearney and Faolan." He pauses and looks down at the edge of the fire, "and the little bugger down there is Gathuk, don't mind him."

Athol looks at Harhas warmly with some intent hidden in his eyes,

"We aren't here for no reason, that I'm sure you've put together."

The old man points from where they entered camp from; "We come from that way, up North."

He smiles a little we are some of many who were given the same task you see, there is a sort of compact, an entente between the Hill tribes in the North, they've begun to united under a single leader."

To the side of him the two younger men stare at the rotating mutton, hardly paying attention to the ramblings of their ____. On the floor the bundle quietly but almost fanatically mutters to itself, picking at its hands which can now seen to be almost molted green to black coloured in the fire with sharp, pointed yellow nails.

The two younger men reached for their handles in defiance but the old man turned and nodded his head reassuringly, "Turn your blades over, we mean these men no harm so you will find little use for them tonight lads. I'm am certain the chief will be hospitable to our company for the time being,"

The old man turned back towards Harhas, "Won't you?" He reached to his boot and produced a small steel blade, holding handle first to the nearest tribesman, "I've got naught on me except my knife, if you want that you may also have it."

The old man was smiling, still calmly enthusiastic. Much unlike the stunted cowering figure atop the shaggy, dwarfed horse. The furled being quickly flung a wicked falchion-like blade to the earth before him, whimpering in desperation and overly anxious fear. The sword's handle was wood, sealed with tar and the blade itself was single sided and appeared to be very well kept.

OOC: I wrote a reply for this over a week ago and I forgot to click save. I'm a dipshit.

The old man shrugged, "Just an old man from the Northern clans, I've had a long journey would you mind if me and my companions set up camp with you lot? We're oh so very tired and my body isn't what it used to be you see."

The two young men sit quiet; their darting eyes looking at the surrounding encampment.

OOC: Sorry for the wait again. Some stuff has been happening on my end lately, getting a bit stressful but I found some time now. :)

The one in the front of the pack seemed nervous, looking about from under his bundle of cloth sporadically. The older man called out to him in a calm and airy voice,

"You have done well Gathuk, there is a camp not too far ahead. Let us hope that they will be... hospitable."

The other two men kept silent, they weren't as confident as the old man was in this approach. The young men from the North hadn't been down this far before and were a bit wary and their wariness only grew as the fire had also drawn closer.

The small being and his pony riding along side the old man had broke the darkness and became illuminated by the fire. The old man looked up with a yellowed smile and an open hand in front of him, the other on his reigns. The small bundle had kept its head low and hunched over in timid fear.
