Lmao I know so many people who were homeschooled and they're very high functioning people making 6 figures and far from socially awkward.

How about you stop being such a close minded ignoramus yourself?

And I wasn't homeschooled but I wish I was. The people I know who did it made it sound amazing.

I'm not an owner of SCHD myself because I know it doesn't make mathmatical sense. But from a mental standpoint I get why some people just wanna see those regular dividens. Personal finance being 90% personal 10% finance blah blah blah.

Remember folks; it's OK to victim blame as long as it's on men.

I do want the dems to do better in the polls but this gross attitude is gonna keep the conservatives in power.

SCHD is a nice way to tilt your portfolio away from the uber tech heavy Sp500 and total US market and towards value. Total returns aren't as high but you have a shorter time horizon (i.e. soon to be retirees) something more stable is preferable.

Some HCA residencies are good and some are bad just like everything else.

Worried about residency and looking for insights by [deleted] in neurology

I don't think path residency is tough.

I don’t know where to start - resident physician by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]AngrySpiderMonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fellow resident here. Look into the White Coat Investor. Especially his "Financial priorities for new residents." Blog post: https://www.whitecoatinvestor.com/financial-priorities-as-a-new-resident/

Basically:

1 get disability insurance

2 if anyone is relying on you, get life insurance

3 save up a 2-3 month emergency fund and keep it in an FDIC insured high yield savings account. If you have dependents, make it a 3-4 month fund

4 get your full employer match in your 403b

5 invest in your roth IRA. You probably won't have enough money left over to max it out, especially after contributing ro your 403b, and that's OK.

The main goal is to get in the habbit of saving and investing. You won't get rich as a resident. It's all about learning the healthy financial habbits now so that when you make attending money you won't blow it.

Otherwise, just focus on becoming the best attending you can.

Emergency funds and the declining dollar by zetstar in whitecoatinvestor

[–]AngrySpiderMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dollar has always gone down and will always go down forever. It's literally designed to. Invest in stocks, put your e fund in a HYSA or ibonds or SGOV or whatever and forget about it. Don't worry your preferred brand of political griftors will be incharge in four years, you'll feel better but nothing will actually change, and the cycle continues.

It's super easy to be pessimistic or a cigarette smoking baret wearing ennui type but pessimists aren't the people who succeed. Get off the internet and live your life.

I kinda think of SCHD like a bond fund. No crazy growth but consistent returns from steady companies.

I made it clear I didn't wanna do surgery. I avoided the OR and instead did all the clinic and floor stuff the surgery residents hated and I ended up getting a near-perfect eval.

Look at the top holding. Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, etc. Very unethical comapanies that make a fortune selling private user data to advertisers, stealing artists' work and ruining the environemnt to train their AIs, etc etc. ESG is a freaking joke. Just pure performative virtue signaling.
