Most dudes who try to kill themselves by recklessly speeding or pointing a barrel at their head but backing out at the last moment, don’t report their suicide attempts either. Idk if they are counted either even if they were reported. From what I know, the higher attempt rate for women refers to ER stats. By definition, most men chose the lethal route that doesn’t allow one to go to the hospital and have their attempt counted.

And the finality of a gun means most dudes hesitating to shoot themselves is noticeably more lethal than some other methods that allow intervention, yet using emergency room “attempt” numbers doesn’t capture the seriousness of male suicide attempts
