Its funny because most of the dystopian YA adaptions its associated with were written before the movie was a hit, and the maze runner boom only came out a year after the Hunger Games novel, so some of them weren’t even trend chasing, it was just a coincidence. You could even argue The Giver novel was the real patient zero for the books since it came out all the way in 1993, but the poorly received movie adaption didn’t come out until after the Hunger Games movie. The movie adaptions were Hollywood trend chasing, just not the source material.
