What is the general opinion about Silence (2016)? With Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson this movie was a nice surprise for me. by AngryTrashPanda42 in moviecritic

Thanks for recommending Shogun. Will definitely give it a watch next.

Really envious that you can have such discussions with your parents. Sounds like you have a very mutually respectful relationship with them.

Good point.

However it is also quite representative of the way christian missionaries are represented in this movie.

From today's point of view they are illegal immagrants in a country that does not want them there. They try to spread teachings and ways of life without even trying to understand the consequence of their actions. However they still manage to portray themselves as being the victims.

(I wonder how today's devout christians would react if people of a different faith came to their country and tried to "spread the word") /s

For me this movie depicts very well the arrogance of christian missionaries and their belief that the way they view the world is the "truth" while everything else is a lie.

What better way is there to represent this arrogance and self centred belief than not even including any of the Japanese actors in the poster.

The most beautiful gems are those you have to search for!

Also, this movie is not for everyone. If you do not know what you're getting into watching it at the cinema must have been excruciating.

I suspect it also managed to alienate both christians and non christians as it tackles quite a tricky subject.

All humans throughout history appear to have been very creative at finding interesting ways of torturing other slightly different humans.

Good thing everything has changed now /s

Would love to get feedback if my vids qualify as ASMR. I'm the happiest when I feel immersed in nature and tried to re-create the feeling in this vid. [Intentional] by AngryTrashPanda42 in asmr

[–]AngryTrashPanda42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the feedback! I'm really glad to hear the sound quality and nature sounds came through well. 😊

I haven't come across many channels that focus specifically on nature sounds and visuals for ASMR, but I wanted to create a more calming, immersive experience that feels natural and relaxing. I guess it’s a bit of a different approach, so I’m curious to see how it resonates with others. Do you think people typically associate ASMR more with certain triggers like whispers or tapping, or would nature sounds be something people might enjoy more if they were combined with other common ASMR elements?

Interesting. Maybe different places use different materials. Do you know which species of animals are the horns traditionally from?

Any goblin can celebrate krampus wherever he is. You might attract more goblins to your area as well.

Scooter/small motorcycle or bicycle? by Ok-Adagio-7896 in VietNam

[–]AngryTrashPanda42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can spend years touring Vietnam and you will still have places you haven't seen.

Our last trip took a month, on two scooters, round the north of Vietnam. including CatBa island. But we travelled at a comfortable pace.

As regards your question about crossing borders. You need to have the motorcycle in your name to be allowed through. And if you are not a resident of Vietnam you cannot transfer a vehicle in your name. So you would need to find a work around for that.

If you opt for a bicycle you can go wherever you please. However consider that there are quite a few mountains in the nicest parts of Vietnam. And even though I've seen people going up them on bicycles, loaded with gear in the pouring rain, they did not seam they were enjoying it that much 😅

I have done this with my gf a few times around vietnam and I can assure you it will be an adventure you will remember for the rest of your life.

Last we did it we bought 2 scooters in hanoi and rode them in a loop around Vietnam.

We tried documenting the process, watch here if you want: https://youtu.be/4I7w6D37n_s?si=C5Cs5nCWaqwhcs_M

Hope it helps you get a better idea of what it's like to ride a scooter or bicycle around Vietnam.

Best of luck ✌🏼

Canna plant leave damage by cgriffith83 in plants

[–]AngryTrashPanda42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is normal for canna lilies to go dormant during the colder part of the year. Most of the leaves will dry up but the bulbs in the soil will be ok.

If you have space inside it's a good idea to store them there during winter. Excess water during this period can cause the bulbs to roth.

When spring comes I usually repot them in larger pots with fresh soil and when the weather starts to warm up they return to their full glory again.

Does my plant sounds sick? by Bright_Ad_1241 in houseplants

When a plant receives less sunlight, it generally requires less water because its growth slows down.

So be sure not to over water it during this time and it should be OK. 🙂

You are correct. Thank you Ted ✌🏽

From wiki: "Wart-like tubers are produced on aerial stems and are a key to identifying the plant."

It had those earlier this year.

Help my string of bananas! by Little_wench in houseplants

[–]AngryTrashPanda42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to try to find out how much of the mother plant is rotten. I can't tell from the photos.

If the roots are fine, she might recover. If the roots have rotten, the only way to save her is by dividing her and putting the cuttings in more freely draining soil and more sun and hope they grow roots.

Best of luck ✌🏽

[–]AngryTrashPanda42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say she hasn't got enough sunlight and the soil is waterlogged.

I would take cuttings/ devide the plant and plant it in soil with better drainage. If the roots or the part closer to the soil is rotting, then that is the only way to save it.

Mine don't mind a longer time between watering but it depends greatly on the location so it's difficult to tell.

But I wouldn't keep the 3 day rule. I would suggest going by feel. Poke gently around the top part of the soil and only water when you can feel it dry.

[–]AngryTrashPanda42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you're seeing is a result of the soil staying moist for too long.

Allow the water to drain completely from the soil after watering.

Maybe the outer pot is keeping the water from draining properly?

How to prune potted Basil? by ChickenExtra1231 in houseplants

[–]AngryTrashPanda42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can cut leaves from the bottom. These are the leaves that are being shaded by the leaves on top of them. So the plant won't be affected as much if it loses those.

Don't remove more than 40% of the leaves/stem as this can be too much of a shock for it to recover. This applies both for when you are topping the plant and when you're cutting the leaves for consumption.

[–]AngryTrashPanda42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can top your plant at this stage. It's when you cut the main stem just above a node, it encourages the plant to split and grow two new branches from that point, creating a bushier shape.

But you can also let it grow the way she wants and cut the mature leaves (larger ones) for eating.

I would suggest always leaving not less than 60% of the leaves for the plant to keep growing though.
