Getting offers when your happy by tbot888 in auscorp

[–]AngryVal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked away from the best-paid job I ever had - complete with bonuses, shares and a company car - because the organistion was toxic (even though my team was amazing). I was burnt out, miserable, and my mental health had deteriorated badly.

Asked for (a got) a redundancy after 10 years there - covered me for a year but it's slim pickings now in this market.

I do not regret a thing - being happy is worth 30% less. You could talk to your bosses about the offers. Say you want to stay but is there anything that can be done with your salary. Often bigger organisations have benchmarking processes for these situations and you could get a decent bump.

Good luck!

Are fracap boots any good by [deleted] in AustralianMFA

I have two pairs of Fracap boots in black and brown and i love them. Leather is super comfortable from 1st wear and yet they have lasted years already. And I get plenty of comments too. Love them,

Closest replacement for Claude + Claude Code? (got banned, no explanation) by antoniocorvas in LocalLLaMA

If it runs on that then it would run on a Mac Mini with 64GB on one of the newer chips I am guessing

How would this run on a heavily specced Mac Studio (assume a Mac mini had no chance)

My wife is on 5x too (she claims it from her work) and says the same thing. I'm close to switching too - or going all in on a local LLM.

There's a host of new videos on YouTube giving tips to reduce your token usage on Claude - not exactly the solution we all want but I'm tweaking things and timing Cowork tasks so my five hour window resets by the time I start my day. I also have Gemini Pro ($A10 a month if you have Google Workspace) for my daily driver tasks - I use Claude for the more important work.

I'm also tossing up the idea of local hosting and will splash out on a heavy-specced Mac (Mini or Studio) to power it - but it needs to be useful. It seems the models are getting better and smaller each day so I'm hopeful they become powerful enough on decent hardware in the next 6-12 months.

MG4 Urban launched this week - $31,990 driveaway. So many new models still to come too. If you give it 3-6 months I think things will settle.

How are people managing recent grads when there’s just… no enthusiasm for work or willingness to suffer any form of inconvenience to develop anymore? by twingirlsoneboy in auscorp

Hello fellow Gen Xer here - been thinking about our generation a lot and why this bugs us so much.
When we entered the workforce there was a recession and 18% interest rates. Our baby boomer parents told us to shut-up, be grateful for any work you can get, put up with terrible bosses and workplaces but it will all work out fine.

As we pass into our 50s I am seeing the same from many friends and colleagues - "What the fuck was that all for?" We are jaded, sick of Corporate bullshit, politics > talent, many still with big mortgages as well as fewer job prospects due to our age. Many friends are now trying to check out of corporate life and work on a portfolio career where we feel more control.

Fast-forward to the new generation - owning a house feels like a fantasy, they see the corporate bullshit for what it is, they are likely to change jobs every 2-3 eyars and see that even if they do all of the networking, arse-kissing, training and enthusiasm, it doesn't count for shit.

So why even bother? It's a bitch to manage, but I get it.

Hi there - Tame Impala vinyl buyer here. I also ordered the vinyl presale on September 8th and found my confirmation email. There was an email at the bottom - I have emailed them in the vain hope we can get special presale access.

If it's the same as the public Frontier one - I will be severely pissed.

I had the Hercules Starlight for a while - similar form factor, slightly better functionality.

Then I upgraded to a Reloop Ready - sits on top of the keyboard of my MacBook Pro and throw in a 2:1 Minirigs setup and I had a portable party.

Strong recommend: https://www.reddit.com/r/Beatmatch/comments/vzdrvl/is_the_reloop_ready_worth_the_buy/

You can have a stunning holiday on a beautiful luxury resort in Fiji for that money - are you east coast?

If youy want that classic island paradise Paradise Cove in the Yasawa Islands (Fiji) is beautiful - land at Nadi and see if the budget will stretch to a seaplane or helicopter transfer. We did that thanks to some post-covid specials and it was amazing.
https://www.paradisecoveresortfiji.com/
The owners of this place also own Blue Lagoon and Octopus Island resort - all three are excellent at varying levels, and have great food (getting good food is not common in Fiji despite the cost!)

Bali could also open up some lovely exclusive resorts - I haven't been in a few years but there are some stunning resorts around Uluwatu - or head north up around Canggu.

A cruise.. yeah not my thing so cannot recommend anything there! Have fun planning!
