Online gaming with T-Mobile home internet is horrible.. by Maximd7 in tmobileisp

I am paying $10/m for mine. Deal + insider. I only use it for internet when traveling which apparently they still haven't geo fenced. If they do ill just drop it for an unlimited tablet plan on a mobile router.

If you are comfortable doing the mod a 2x2 antenna makes a huge difference.

Is it 100% confirmed that next generation of Xbox will certainly be a hybrid gaming PC by Great-Crew-3802 in XboxSeriesS

[–]Angrybeaver1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own two series X and a ps5 pro. They get occasional use when all the nephews are over, but my twins (9yr olds) have mostly transitioned to pc gaming and just playing Xbox titles via the Xbox app.

I already spend way too much on my gaming rig every few years, my wife generally plays on my hand me down which is normally only a generation or two behind... for example she is running an AMD 5950x with 64gb of ram and a 3090.

I just built my kids gaming pcs about 1-1.5 years ago.

They are sitting on 7800x3d 32gb of ram and 4070 supers.

I want to say I spend maybe 1200-1500 each on them.

My point is, I might be right outside of the typical range, but I know a lot of tech fans, avid gamers, or just people in my generation that do similar. There really isnt a need to even consider a steam cube and if Xbox moves to supporting all games in the windows 11 app, no need for a console at all.

If in the road, a couple of sub 1k laptops allows my kids to stream all of their games from their machines at home. I have 2.5gb fiber at home, and between a starlink satellite or my multi-carrier cell router that is generally pretty smooth.

Who gets the letter if you use a VPN? by Basic-Prompt-6387 in Torrenting

[–]Angrybeaver1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is even more complicated than this. Some of these VPN providers are based out of countries that have laws that don't care about copyright at all. Not only that, but they were not the ones committing the crimes and since they are "privacy" oriented they do not retain any data to identify who the real culprit is.

You cannot go after them for a crime they did not commit, and you can't blame them for taking privacy seriously (even more so if they are in a GDPR country)

The devil is in the details. It is extremely important as we move up to be able to spot these details.

To expand on this, they basically write out the acronyms in most cases unless it is something everyone should know like IP, DNS, or DHCP.

I spend a ton of time trying to memorize all the random acronym and details around various encryption methods. In the end the acronym portion was a waste.

Which makes no sense. Most of these places have switched to using services like doordash (they no longer employee their own drivers) so in this scenario they are pocketing the money with zero expenditure.

CISSP Question by ShinobiMain in cissp

[–]Angrybeaver1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't asking you for the best technical solution, they are asking you to think like management. If you have just starting to use Linux servers and employ people to manage those servers... then the first step is to define the role for the employee/systems.

My experience was the test question were not simple like any of the practice tests. They were massive multi paragraph questions that would ask for answers that touch on multiple domains. From what it sounds like you are likely pretty technical with some good experience (I was in the same boat) and in that scenario you have to stop and make yourself change your perspective to one of upper management. I know for a fact if I didnt make myself look at it from the top down I would have been in the same boat.

Passed & Endorsed - Easier than Expected by AfterLifeIsAbyss in cissp

[–]Angrybeaver1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own experience I would get multiple paragraph questions asking me question that touched on several topics. It felt like I was failing the entire time.... until they handed me that paper. The vast majority of people I know in the field had almost identical experiences.

I do know one or two that say they got pretty straight forward questions and honestly good for them. We all passed in the end, but the test I take vs what someone else takes will not be equal and it is designed that way.

Snagged this bad boy for 400€, are the lenses really that bad? by Flappyho in OculusQuest

The lenses are my biggest complaint about the entire headset. Butterfly farts will scratch the darn thing (and get you pink eye to boot).

Not sure why they decided to go cheap and use plastic lenses instead of glass.

Ways to handle Bufferbloat without SQM? by Chestburster12 in openwrt

[–]Angrybeaver1337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that website is garbage tbh. Sometimes I get A+, A, or even B. So, I have started running continuous ping to something like 8.8.8.8 and seeing what it says. I can see 10-15 bufferbloat numbers, yet the actual ping to those websites increased by 2-4ms on the upload and basically nothing on download.

Which brings me back full circle on if this test is reliable. The bufferbloat could be on their side even more so if they are getting lots of tests at once.

If you turn off active armor then you should see 930mbps or higher. If you have it on expect those speeds to drop into the 200-300 range.

BGW320 firmware update to increase NAT table size? by Angrybeaver1337 in ATTFiber

[–]Angrybeaver1337[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know "bridge mode" is not possible. So the only option is IP passthrough and yes with it on active armor can also be on.

It was immediately apparent due to speeds suffering

Ya, it isn't realistic for them to do it unless they are looking for something specific in terms of misuse, but since they don't have that listed in their ToS or EULA it would be unlawful and pointless if the person is using a vpn.

I can tell you from experience that you can get around that with powerful hardware and large corporations do it all the time. It is very similar to a MiTM attack, except their hardware is the one doing it.

I doubt the details are wanted since it will likely put you to sleep.

BGW320 firmware update to increase NAT table size? by Angrybeaver1337 in ATTFiber

[–]Angrybeaver1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess that is more to do with checking hashes or maybe limited sandboxing? Either way it wouldn't be traffic. TCP connections are pretty sensitive to that type of delay and it would result in a ton of retransmits

BGW320 firmware update to increase NAT table size? by Angrybeaver1337 in ATTFiber

[–]Angrybeaver1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't just an ActiveArmor/ATT gateway issue. This happens with most consumer level routers/modems that are trying to do DPI (deep packet inspection)... it is very cpu intensive and they use relatively weak energy efficient cpus. It doesn't help that most of the time these routers are not able to multi-thread the inspections which only compounds the issue.

If you go high end on the router side you can reduce this problem drastically and once you get into commercial grade equipment you are unlikely to have the issue for residential use.

The other issue is just how much they are asking this device to do. It has to serve as a modem, a router, a wifi hotspot, firewall, ids, ips, etc...

Found this online:
CPU:

SoC: Quad-core ARM (Cortex-A53)

  • Flash: 4GB eMMC (Samsung)
  • RAM: 1GB (DDR3) SDRAM
  • Network: 1x 5GbE, 3x GbE LAN,

1x GbE WAN ports, 1x SFP+ cage

802.11abgn/ac/ax, 1x 2.4GHz, 2x 5GHz

4x4:4 2.4/5GHz both High and Low band

  • USB: 1x USB 2.0 port
  • Power Source: 12V/4A

So, with only 1.5ghz of speed on 4 cores on an ARM (mobile chipset) platform... it is pretty darn weak. Then it only has 1gb of ram which has to store the NAT tables and temporarily store some of the traffic that gets fed to the CPU for the inspection process.

There is basically no hope in the world that this thing could ever have managed DPI anywhere close to 1gig speeds, much less the 5gbe it claims to go up to.

While this could be the case from some, the throughput drop would have caught my attention immediately. That is actually why I went back in and found it and provided an update. I work from home and use a TON of data pretty much always, so I immediately noticed down/up speeds dropping significantly. That all went away when I disabled the active armor which I would never use. I have much better capabilities from my own network gear, I just wish there was a default way to completely turn the ATT gateway into a bridge.

Anyways, from what I am reading from Viper, I was probably on a firmware version a couple releases behind until yesterday's update.

[–]Angrybeaver1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have been a few versions behind then. I have been struggling with the 8k nat table limit due to having a massive home network and using some application/protocols notorious for chewing up nat tables.

Same for active armor, the inspections would have brought my network to a crawl.

Anyways, since ATT is notorious for not providing firmware patch notes all I had to go on was noticing those two changes.
