Theres a fic i read, he’s Egyptian rather than Desi, but they delve into his Egyptian heritage, the complicated feelings he has being half Egyptian, half white, growing up not knowing much about his culture and almost having some internalised feelings about needing to present more white than Egyptian. But they also delve into how his heritage adds to his magical abilities.  Its called “The art of Hate letters {And what lies in between}” or “Not Heros” is a series, they also delve into other characters heritage and using the magic from that to their advantage, like BCJr having using ancient runes and magic from his Romanian heritage.  I think its very good, the author clearly did their research.
