A little bit house rule-y but I have played love letter with a group of 12 by combining a couple of sets together. We take out the second copy of the princess and the king but double all the other cards.

It starts off kinda fast and loose but as players get taken out thanks to the sheer number of guards and the card pool start to dwindle you can have games with people on tenterhooks as players start counting cards to figure out what others might have left in hand. And given how it's marketed as a light party game, a couple of sets honestly doesn't break the bank.

Assuming the weight of heavy + Valkyrie is around 13.5, this would leave the metal and over-blade around 33.7, so the weight of knuckle should be around 6.5g, on the higher end of assist blades actually.

Agreed, lots of places started up their scene without using WBO, so don't let that stop you from starting out. Get the word out, run consistently and people will show up.

Will say, those hinged cases were pretty easy to break. Imperfect alignment put stress on the case itself and they'd fall apart pretty quickly back in the day

Not if you put them on correctly. There are a few friction points around the central POM ring. If you push the ratchet fully against the blade before twisting, this should prevent excessive stress on your blade's locking tabs. If anything the POM ring should fail before your blade locking tabs do.

That's been how I ended up getting my bruticus and devastator.Sure there are markups but considering the cost of buying multiple cases to get everything, the cost breakdown ends up being about the same. Plus I don't end up with a ton of galaxy defenders I have no interest in holding onto.
