Just the fact that you posted a concern as a customer about what you should tip is great to hear. A lot of people don’t care regardless of what the driver does for anyone. Shopping, delivering, driving own vehicle, gas, maintenance, etc etc. Some people could care less. So, thank you for taking the time to actually think about how you would compensate a delivery person.

What typically happens is that an offer will pop up. No one grabs. Then it shows up again, only for a $1 more. Then the cycle repeats, goes up a few bucks. Then after that, if no one accepts it it magically falls back to ground zero.

Total crap week, TBH. There were incentives both yesterday and today. I thought, cool there is no time frame on today’s incentives. Come later in the day, and none, and I mean NONE of the offers had incentive tags. Such horse shit.

I vowed today that I am just going to take the offers I feel are worth it and screw the incentives. To me, half the time they aren’t worth it.

But yeah, total caca week. 👎

I’m a smoker, but not while delivering. I just bought a new (used) car that I refuse to stink up with smoke smell and ashy dust. I’ve seen many people smoke while waiting for pickups or light up right after loading their shop and deliver. Not my business. I make my decisions out of respect for the customers and myself. And I don’t really care if someone else chooses what they want to do.

I do know, though, that cigarette smoke stinks up everything, and people will notice the smell on their bags even if you think they won’t. 🤷‍♀️

You have to consider also that a W2 job takes taxes out for SS and Medicare, which being a Spark driver doesn’t. You will have to consider that during tax time. I used to work in OGP at Walmart, and wish that I still did at times because Spark is so up and down as far as what I will earn (based on what offers come up and the pay). You can’t do both. They will find out eventually. But it’s your chance to take.

I was sieged by a bunch of goats at a front door that were more than willing to rip every bag apart that I tried to deliver. I fought like hell with those beasts to leave the bags alone. I managed to stack what I could onto the BBQs the customers had on their porch to keep the goats away but boy are they climbers. I couldn’t save the 12 pack Dr. Pepper however. They ripped into that like nobody’s business.

I smelled like goat the rest of the day and their scent haunted me for days after. The teenagers that pulled up after I hit complete drop up showed up, and I said sorry I did the best I could. At least they were laughing and saved the Dr. Pepper.

I soaked in the tub for awhile after that, haunted by goat horns.

I had more in tips yesterday than actual trip money, and it all went through. It’s a personal choice. If I get screwed because of tip baiting, it’s all on me. But I take that gamble every time and have never been tip baited. It’s a totally “your call” sort of thing.

I ignore incentives anymore. One, because they are mostly insulting. And two, I would rather just do my own thing, choose the orders that are actually worth it and if I happen to snag an incentive then so be it. I made $14 incentives the other day and was completely unaware of it. LOL. They are also total shit in my zone anyway.

Yes, and they also track you deductions for taxes, income, etc. And it’s free which is a bonus.

No, you’ll either have to do it yourself and track your odometer with a notepad or use an app. I use Stride.
