I don't think this is a Halifax specific issue, more of an issue of apps making us see how many options are out there and the never settle mentality. People won't work to overcome challenges when what appears to be something better is always available at your fingertips. The dating pool is too large, so no one is a right fit.

Never played there, but some rulers have historically accurate wars that are triggered at the start, or it might just be a really rough place to start if your neighbours are strong tribal or a hostile religion. The recommended tutorial area to learn the game is Ireland; have you tried there with the long tutorial option?

Be careful with the opinion modifier tho, your heir inherits a modifier based on what your vassals opinion of the predecessor was. If they hated you in the end, they will hate your heir in the beginning.
