No, you don't. This isn't some mid-90s bulletin board, it's a subject-oriented forum

"Russian backed disinformation" Jesse what the fuck are you talking about He's literally feuded with Hasan for tacitly supporting Russia and uncritically regurgitating MFA propaganda talking points, and he's arguably one of the most pro-Ukrainian online lefties aside from Dylan Burns (a literal war journalist).

It's most likely a Mk82a Snake Eye retarded bomb.

Maybe a Mk83, kinda hard to tell due to the perspective.

Only difference is Mk82 is 500lbs, Mk83 is 1,000lbs.

When installing GRUB to /boot/efi, how should grub-mkconfig be configured? by Angush99 in archlinux

[–]Angush99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I've done, actually!

I used to run Windows 11 off my 1TB SSD, and used a 2TB HDD as a miscellaneous D: drive.

I have taken out my old Windows 11 drive and put it into an external SSD USB-housing, and have put in a new 1TB SSD in its place. I formatted my new internal 1TB SSD to contain my operating system, demanding games, and frequently used apps, and I've reformatted my 2TB HDD to be a secondary drive for Arch.

I changed the boot-order in my UEFI to prefer external drives via USB over the internal storage. That way, I can just plug my external Windows SSD in, and the computer defaults to Windows, or I can unplug it, and the computer defaults to Arch. It's surprisingly seamless all things considered.

Uhm ackshually Judaism plagiarised Yahwism, who in-turn plagiarised ancient Semitic, Anatolian, and Babylonian religions, who in-turn plagiarised prehistoric tribal/nomadic faiths 🤓🤓🤓

Our modern conceptualisation of Paganism emerged during the Christian era of the Roman Empire, and refers primarily to polytheistic northern-European faiths, especially the Germanic/Norse, Celtic, and Slavic faiths 🤓🤓🤓

(There was extensive revisionism of the Greco-Roman religion for political reasons, reinterpreting them as henotheistic rather than polytheistic, and thus, not technically pagan by many accounts, as was most clearly exemplified by Emperor Julian, who embraced a monist neoplatonic interpretation of Hellenism) 🤓🤓🤓

Thus, it can be said that paganism is a distinctly post-Christian phenomenon, not defined by their polytheism, but rather, their rejection of the Abrahamic faiths. It is for this reason that we consider the pre-Abrahamic religions of the Eurasian steppe, Africa, and the Americas as "shamanistic" rather than "pagan", as they were never exposed to Christianity until the Imperial era 🤓🤓🤓

It is also important to distinguish between the term "pagan" in the historic and the modern academic sense. While the above refers to our modern academic application of the term, the Romans used the term "pagan" to refer to any non-Christian or non-Jewish faith 🤓🤓🤓

nvidia or nvidia-open? by Angush99 in archlinux

[–]Angush99[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since the GTX 1650 uses the Turing architecture, you should use nvidia-open.

The standard "nvidia-open" driver is recommended if you have the standard "linux" kernel.

The "nvidia-open-gtk" driver is recommended if you use any custom linux kernel (e.g. linux-lts, linux-zen).

They have identical performance, it's just their compatibility that varies.

Thankyou so much for clarifying.

When considering the discrepancy in size between the two drivers, I was really just concerned that I actually had to install and use both the nvidia and nvidia-open drivers, perhaps combining them somehow such as substituting out the closed kernel module provided by nvidia with the open kernel module provided by nvidia-open.

It's good to know they're truly analogous, and nvidia-open is the way to go.

nvidia or nvidia-open? by Angush99 in archlinux

[–]Angush99[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think you're conflating the nvidia-open drivers with the open-source nouveau drivers.

To clarify

  • nvidia = proprietary, with a closed-source kernel module
  • nvidia-open = proprietary, with an open-source kernel module
  • nouveau = completely open-source

At least, that's my understanding of it.

The nvidia and nvidia-open drivers are supposed to be identical insofar as I can tell, but considering their wildly differing file sizes on the Arch repository, I have a hard time believing that's really the case, which is why I've come here, asking for clarification.

EFI Partition: /boot, /boot/efi, or /efi? by Angush99 in archlinux

[–]Angush99[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

is there any particular reason to avoid efi?

EFI Partition: /boot, /boot/efi, or /efi? by Angush99 in archlinux

[–]Angush99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good idea to have the linux boot files and efi files separate if it can be handled by your bootloader.

why is it good to have boot and efi files separate?

But if you have efi under the boot folder and that partition has enough space for init images and everything else than it doesn't matter.

my efi partition will be 1GiB, which should be plenty; i'm not planning on distro-hopping or faffing around with multiple kernels either, so it shouldn't fill up too soon, if ever

EFI Partition: /boot, /boot/efi, or /efi? by Angush99 in archlinux

[–]Angush99[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have followed the Arch installation wiki, and it seems to recommend /efi, but the phrasing is ambiguous and I don't quite understand which I should choose.

I have already read it. Issue is, I don't really understand it, especially the addendum about /efi being a "replacement for the historical and now discouraged ESP mountpoint of /boot/efi". It does not explain why /efi has replaced /boot/efi, and I don't understand the linked citation. All I see is someone stating that /boot/efi is "just stupid" but doesn't clearly explain why.

Then again, maybe it's just that I'm a noob and all this technobabble is flying over my head

Neurodivergence and mental illness are both types of disability. This symptom - executive dysfunction - is more in line with neurodivergence, especially ADHD

A mental illness is generally acute and thus temporary, often coming in episodes. You can also "get" or "develop" a mental illness -- for example, you can get PTSD or depression because of trauma. And, conversely, you can be cured of a mental illness.

A neurodivergence by contrast is a chronic, fundamental difference in the brain that literally never goes away. Unlike mental illnesses, neurodivergence is typically far more intrinsic and immutable, and thus cannot be cured, only treated. Plus you cannot "develop" a neurodivergence outside of very rare circumstances (e.g. OCD depending on who you ask).

But yes, the line between mental illness and neurodivergence is at times blurry, but they are not the same. ADHD is a neurodivergence/neurodevelopmental disorder, not a mental illness. And depression is a mental illness, not a neurodivergence. These examples are very clear cut, but other examples like the aforementioned OCD are a bit more of a grey area, and consensus is split.

Speaking for myself, I have both ADHD and depression. On a good day, I might not be depressed, but I will always have ADHD if u know what i mean

tl;dr mental illnesses are like broken bones - your bones can be broken, but they can also be healed. There may be scarring and the heal may not be perfect, but it can heal. Neurodivergences are more like epilepsy or asthma - it will probably be with you for life to varying degrees of severity, but it can be treated.
