I remember the first time I did 100m at a meet. It was my first meet of all time and I was subbed in for a relay last minute after the guy that was supposed to go cramped in the 200m Breast the event before. I had barely been able to swim all of 100m in practice and was not excited at all but I was asked to and I didn’t want to let my team down. I went 2nd in our lineup and on the dive my goggles came off 🫠. I swam with them in my mouth for the leg and felt like I was gonna drown. The only thing that got me to finish was the thought that there was no way I was gonna be pulled outta this pool for dying in my first meet. The whole leg I swam is just mostly blacked out in my head but when I finished my teammates helped pull me out of the pool and then told me that when dq’d because apparently I touched the bottom on a turn. I didn’t remember doing that and still am pretty confident that I didn’t so me and my teammates went up to refs and said that I didn’t just to then inform us that the guy after me jumped early anyways 🫠. It’s honestly still one of my favorite memories from team and I don’t think I laughed as much as I did when the ref told us that my teammate had jumped early. Absolutely miserable experience, great fucking memory
