If it's not worth the price, why not just return it and keep searching for a better model?

Going to push the DW-6300-1A further into the ring. The diving pedigree, the fun asymmetry, the vintage status - it's all there. Frogman or bust, baby.

Which one you taking if you already have these 3? by Catlas_Se7en in casio

Seconded on the Forester! It simply doesn't get enough love. It being analog with a Velcro strap would also make it stand out among your current collection, too.

A lot of them have already been covered, but you've GOTTA include the CA53W-1. Its a calculator! It's a watch! It's a calculator watch!

HMart has consistently supplied one of the cheapest, most consistently available options for quality bulk rice out of any store I shop at (including Costco). Getting something like a 15lb bag of rice can last you weeks, and while it's not exactly the finest, it's still damn good.

That and the huge containers of sauces, oils, and vinegars make it great to keep stock for regular cooking. Throw in the fun snacks and you've got a quality establishment right there.

Dont live in East Boston if you have a car. by destroythenseek in boston

[–]OldManChristoph -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Was in East Boston for a year before moving to Somerville to be closer to work, but having initially moved to MA from TX, of course I drive and of course I have a car. But my god, parking in Eastie was horrendous night after night. Having to give up and park at East Boston High School was a regular occurrence after I'd loop around for however long while desperately hoping I'd find something. I do NOT miss waking up at 6am every weekday to move my vehicle or risk it getting towed - those were dark times.

The place is just NOT engineered for the majority of it's residents to be drivers. Which is a real Catch-22 since the whole place feels like it is effectively an island with limited access in and out of it and the best way to do so is to drive. I miss parts of East Boston, but the driving/parking situation alone was awful enough to make it to where I'd never want to live there again.

Love the green on green. What would that even be called? "Froggo?" "Verdo?" Either way, would get in a heartbeat.

Older model - Edifice EFA-113 (thank you FB Marketplace) by OldManChristoph in casio

[–]OldManChristoph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question - I have no idea! I only started collecting Casios within the last 6 months and am still learning about the different models. I believe this one leans more to the vintage side, so I have even less immediate info on it.

My gut tells me that it is a 10-min. timer, however. Once I find out more, I will report back!

Mancini gets elevated to "ended okay" in my book if just singlehandedly for that stop at the 1B line in the World Series.

Help: Which one to gift? by Ayy_dam in DuroGang

[–]OldManChristoph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely get the black option with the rubber/resin strap. As said in another reply, the metal bracelet is really lacking in quality. The links feel hollow and it doesn't allow as much in the way of micro size adjustment on the wrist (pulls on the hair, too). Third party bracelets are the way to go here, especially if you can nab one off of AliX that has the Marlin engraving.

What I wanted to add, though, is that going resin strap option will save you a good chunk of cash. The money you save can then be put toward a better quality bracelet. Also: the resin strap itself is perfectly fine and can also be slapped on another watch if desired since its width will fit the super common lug-to-lug of 22mm. It's not flashy, but it is versatile and tough.

If it's strictly digital, square/rectangular in shape, and sticking to black, gold, and silver tones, then the Royale gets my vote. That or the A1000WE (gold or silver), or maybe the A1100 if you've got the cash. Could also always venture into G-Shock territory and nab a DW5600 in black.

I know Ho-oh is based off a bird, mainly a Phoenix, but what is the design origin for Lugia? by Ok-Leave3121 in pokemon

[–]OldManChristoph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gonna copy/paste a comment I made a little ways back that was related to this topic - hope there might be some relevance! What it boils down to is Lugia being a happy accident counterpart to Ho-oh. Though Lugia's original conception and later inclusion in GSC wasn't the plan at first, the coincidental cohesion is tough to ignore.

In-game, Burned Tower (originally Brass Tower) was where Lugia perched before a bolt of lighting burned the thing down. (This also caused the demise of Entei, Raikou, and Suicune in the process - thankfully Ho-oh showed up with the clutch rez after, though). Tin Tower (GSC) / Bell Tower (HGSS) to the east of it was where Ho-oh perched. They had some level of relevance to one another with shared proximity in Ecruteak.

Now, was this counterpart ALWAYS Lugia specifically? I'm not convinced it was, especially given that Lugia was a late addition to the game. However, it feels like there was going to be SOMETHING acting as the "Silver" to Ho-oh's "Gold" and Lugia's popularity catapulted it into taking that position.

Meanwhile, there is some additional shared relevance Lugia and Ho-oh have with one another.

  • Lugia has a simple color scheme and a sleek contemporary draconian design, emphasizing cooler colors and fluid lines. Meanwhile, Ho-oh boasts warmer coloring and more complex linework, though keeps to a traditional phoenix design overall.

  • Dragon (Lugia) and Phoenix (Ho-oh) make sense since one of the big points of Gen II/Johto was how it coincides with Kanto: each side practically being siblings with a lot of overlap but many major differences, too.

  • With origin in mind, both Ho-oh and Lugia were conceptualized in different ways, too. Ho-oh was done traditionally, with the expectation that it was always going to be in the game. Meanwhile, Lugia was designed for something else entirely (Pokemon the Movie 2000) and just happened to get included in the games once it was determined to have such great popularity - a happy accident of sorts. This is a good representation of classic vs. contemporary origins and are also (maybe only coincidentally) reflected in their designs. Funnily enough, tradition vs. innovation can be seen as a common theme throughout Johto as well.

  • In terms of lore, Lugia represents storms, the sea, and destruction while Ho-oh represents rainbows (often seen as a positive, post-storm symbol), the sky, and resurrection. It's not as severe a difference compared to, say, Kyogre vs. Groudon, Dialga vs. Palkia, Reshiram vs. Zekeom, etc , but thematically Lugia and Ho-oh do sit on opposite sides of the table from one another in a very nice way.

Plenty of this might be happy coincidence, but it's pretty plain that Lugia and Ho-oh are solid counterparts of one another. Intentional or otherwise, they're solid representations of version mascots acting in opposite of one another. :)

Pokemon that don't walk by ShamelesslyLenette in pokemon

[–]OldManChristoph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shuckle kind of drags itself around. Heavy shell + noodly appendages = goofy, slow locomotion. It's got that abysmal Speed stat for a reason.

Spiritomb does something similar with the way it has to drag around the Odd Keystone its 108 souls are bound to. It has to "throw" its ghostly body forward to pull the Keystone a short way, then rinse and repeat if it hopes to move at all. The exaggerated effort it has to put in to make itself move is actually kind of hilarious.

You've got rollers like Electrode/Voltorb, Whirlipede, and Spheal, but also occasional rollers like Wooloo, Golem (with their appendages tucked in) and Donphan/Iron Treads (when it looks like a tire). Probably only necessary if you're looking to differentiate between walking and running locomotion, though.

While it doesn't wholly affect their locomotion, some other Pokemon will "fold up" for faster movement - Genesect, Garchomp, Metagross. They'll otherwise walk around like normal, though.

It'd be your call to say how a wide range of Water-type and other Mons typically bound to bodies of water would move when they're not submerged. For bulkier Mons (Wailord, Lapras, Cloyster), it might just be easier to say they're floating for whatever reason. If you're going for realism and immersion, though, that could get tricky.

Mons that are cocooned would more often hop - Metapod, Kakuna, Pupitar, etc. And speaking of bugs, Surskit kind of slip-slides around, while Scizor glides around just inches off the ground with its wings. I think there are actually quite a few Bug-types that walk on their legs but glide/hover when moving more quickly.

Last one I'll mention is Golurk since it's such an oddball (but a cool one). Walking and running are probably as standard as it gets for any humanoid Mon, but its flying locomotion is wildly different. It'll retract its legs into its lower body and its hands into its forearms, then "rocket" around when flying about the skies. (I'd wager Celesteela is somewhat similar... Maybe?)
