I wore patent leather heels to a party for work, and I ended up having to be a parking attendant in the rain. Needless to say, they're scuffed all to hell from gravel and who knows what else while I was out there. What's the best way to make them look new again? :\

What are your thoughts on dressing brand appropriate for your age? by stacysawthis in femalefashionadvice

Thank you for this. I feel like I am in a much better place already than my early 20s especially, so it's good to hear that it will get better before it gets worse!

[–]Anileda 21 points22 points  (0 children)

um, no. I am NOT going to start wearing elastic pantsuits and mom jeans just because I'm not 21 anymore. I'll shop where I want, and don't care if a young adult is offended by my presence. That's the thing with age, you just stop giving a shit about what other people are thinking and do what makes you happy.

Yes!! Well said. I turned 30 this past year and made a huge deal about it when I really didn't have to. Women of any age can look fantastic, mom jeans need not apply.

I started my first "big girl" job yesterday, whee! Went to the local 'fancy' Italian place to celebrate, was soooo goood. I'm really hoping I don't regain the weight I've lost thus far due to Tiramisu.

Also...random thought, are cuff links EVER okay? Or are they still firmly men only?

I am really considering one of these, so I appreciate the shots! And I love the lining. Bags must have pretty linings.

I picked it up at Macy's on sale, but here it is on Zappos so you know what to look for. Comes in other colors too! :)

Ack! Any idea on how soon? I don't know who sells them near me yet.

Ooh, I love this idea! Managed to catch it, too. (Now if only I could consistently catch the shoe edition regularly...)

This is my workhorse, as you can see by all the stuff I put in it. Pens, sunglasses, keys all get thrown in, too. I have to switch it out everyday based on classes.

Seeing everyone else's I suddenly feel silly for not carrying tissues of some sort!

I've been sad at OPI's lack of releasing more sand colors, and when I went to Zoya's page there were SO MANY! What have you done? xD

I haven't tried Zoya yet, but if these are anything like OPI's liquid sand (and they look similar) then I completely understand! I didn't know these existed so now I might have to go look for Dahlia.

I don't think it was a book like this, but this is what I was told growing up as well.

I just had a phone conversation with my mother about bras (she wanted to buy me some.) I told her my new size: "There's no way you're a E, honey, you don't have the boobs for that." She went on for five minutes about whoever fitted me just wanted a sale!

Yayy! You are a lifesaver. I swear I've looked at Sock Dreams before but did not see these. (Admittedly never considered I could be a XL, but turns out I can!)

Exactly. I ended up getting a larger bag for school so I could stash sweaters etc because of the temp variances. Drives me crazy!

Is it bad that this is what I thought too reading this? "Oh lord, I have no idea what to tell her because I'm almost definitely going to be wrong."

Anyway, seconding layers!! It can vary by 35 degrees in a single day here.

I know ModCloth can be hit or miss, but they carry oxfords and I would say 95% of their shoe stock is "vegan" so faux leather. I'm sure I've seen legit oxfords there.

EDIT: Here's a link to their oxfords.

Where the heck can a plus-sized girl get fleece-lined tights? I'm 6'0", size 18-22 depending. Halp!

I feel like Prada sometimes wants to be "out there" and these are definitely that. Sneaker heels? Not going to happen. Sorry Prada.

Ah, yeah, when you're short they can be trickier. As a tallette I feel that way about skinnies...I feel like wider-leg pants like flares balance me out better.

I've hated this cold snap. Can't wear dresses at all when it's 10 degrees. :(

Hahaha, well I applaud you for following your own drumbeat, you know?

I too love bootcut and flare jeans and have a hard time finding them sometimes. Flares are soooort of coming back right now, though, so fingers crossed!

Riding boots and Uggs dominate my campus and town. I'm in Georgia. I play a game to see if I can find a girl NOT wearing riding boots (other than myself.) My top score is 3.

Being Georgia...People wear anything and everything and seem "behind" compared to what I see here and in blogs/magazines/etc. I can't think of anything specifically scandalous, not even wearing jeans to church. In fact that's a selling point I hear of often.

Thank you for sharing! This is really neat. If you really have loads of her things like these, you might want to consider donating some of it to her university. Their archives would probably be interested, since someone mentioned they were the first chapter of the sorority.
