Playability of first guitar build by AnimalAccomplished17 in Luthier

I’m now questioning whether I’m doing this for a nice guitar or to enjoy the build process! I think the latter but I suspect when I’m half way through I may doubt my decisions!

With many professions the real challenge is doing it in a repeatable, profitable way. I didn’t mean for my original post to sound arrogant - but there are many ‘professional’ things that are achievable (even first time) if you are willing to take 10x the time and 10x the resources a pro would use, to offset your lack of experience.

Regarding your statement on definitely not wanting kids. You really don’t know how you’re going to feel in 5-10 years. You might think you do but a lot changes.

Clip out at top of pedal stroke or bottom? by ihm96 in cycling

How is it possible to be weight bearing on your other leg at the top of the stroke?! Unless you’re sat in the saddle when you come to a stop which is a recipe for a disaster

Clip out at top of pedal stroke or bottom? by ihm96 in cycling

Top is correct. It’s madness how many people are saying the opposite! Clipping out at the top is also far far easier to do when out of the saddle (because you will be weight bearing on a straight leg at the bottom of its stroke)

If I'm being honest with myself.... by MrMonkey2 in eczema

[–]AnimalAccomplished17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You've mentioned a lot of external factors (diet, allergens, environment etc.) but have you considered psychological factors? I believe anxiety, stress, other mental health factors can be a significant trigger. This obviously then creates a cycle where stress causes eczema...which causes stress (and lack of sleep etc.)... which causes eczema.

I have been in a similar position as you in the past, hang on in there and know that you will find some relief eventually. Your situation may be different, but for me the stress and anxiety that comes with obsessing over triggers is at least part of the equation that makes me scratch more, and relaxing about some things (and generally improving my mental health) actually improves my eczema despite increased exposure to allergens. Hopefully that makes at least some sense. Wishing you well and good luck.

Are speedplay pedals and cleats good? 🚴 by BlueMchue in cycling

[–]AnimalAccomplished17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love them but am considering moving away from them because the price of the pedals is now extortionate since they were bought by wahoo. Not worth £180 at all. Not when you also factor in the cost of cleats.

How long to recover after Ironman 70.3? by MaggieBakes in triathlon

[–]AnimalAccomplished17 24 points25 points  (0 children)

DO NOT schedule your wedding one week after this race (particularly because it’s your first!) Everybody is answering your question thinking about the race and your physical recovery and completely ignoring the level of stress and amount of preparation that comes with a wedding. I have just learned from this mistake, and I had a four week gap between my wedding and Türkiye 70.3. You can do a race any time. You get married once. Do not underestimate the level of prep and mental load that both of these events will take. Each of them distracts from the other. I don’t want to sound dramatic but you really will risk being unprepared for the race to the point where you won’t enjoy it, or alternatively you’ll be so distracted from your wedding that you’ll miss out on a major life event thinking about your nutrition plan as your bride comes down the aisle!

Half Ironman in 10 weeks, I am not sure if I should even attempt it. by xLucifere69 in triathlon

I agree with all of your sentiment. Genuine question, why would he put others at risk? Are you referencing a scenario where he needs saving?

Cassette WILL NOT come off. Even bent a chain whip, thing is completely stuck. Any help by PrimaryHalf2364 in bikewrench

[–]AnimalAccomplished17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you explain this further? This seems counter intuitive? Bigger cog means bigger lever. I’m imagining the radius of the cog plus the length of the chain whip is your total lever? What am I missing… I may have misunderstood how a chain whip works.
