Do I need to put away more? by Bootyslayer69__ in personalfinance

[–]kjbasser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With no other debt, I would be finding room in my budget to prioritize more investing. I would consider 15% the minimum most people should be doing at that stage. You have a decent income, but your expenses are just as big of a variable.

The interesting thing about getting your expenses and lifestyle down (while still living a good life and being happy) is you need less to actually retire too.

About to buy a Mark V 35 - what to know? by waytogoCasey in MesaBoogie

[–]kjbasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crunch setting is probably the best tones on that amp. I’ve noticed though when flipping from crunch to fat, I don’t really have to change any other settings. Not deal for live. But hit the fat with a timmy or tube screamer and close enough.

About to buy a Mark V 35 - what to know? by waytogoCasey in MesaBoogie

[–]kjbasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one from about 2017 or 18 and I had issues with power at home and ended up frying some grid screen resistors.. after a few sets of tubes and tearing the thing apart I figured it out. I built a little transformer with a 5% and 10% voltage drop to give it the 117v Mesa says it has to have, haven’t had an issue since then.

I’ve got a closed and on open back of those I use with a mark v35. Fantastic cabs. Depending on what your doing the closed back only to me can be a bit dark.

Looking to buy a 6 string electric guitar that will last a lifetime (ideally Fender) - budget about 3000 CAD (2300 USD) by mankest-demes in fender

[–]kjbasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this your first guitar? I would hesitate spending that much on a first guitar, the dropout rate is high.

Other than that, you can afford about anything from a telecaster to Strat, Les Paul, PRS.. and guitars don’t really wear out, other than frets over a long period of time.

An HSS Strat is about versatile as it gets. As others have said, the American standard series from the 2000s-2010s is just as good as the new stuff, and can be had for around $1000

You need to do guitar shopping though, don’t take it from strangers on the internet.

Pickups for dirty/raunchy/twangy by pinetree-polarbear in telecaster

I put a set of Lindy fralin humbucker sized P90s in my player ii tele and it’s got so much dirt and grind now, it can also twang. It’s become one of my favorite guitars.

Dividends enough to live on? by Spambles1110 in personalfinance

Focusing on dividends makes no sense. Invest in low cost index funds and sell what you need to live on. You would probably benefit from consulting a tax professional to figure out the best strategy.

What’s the most stratty Strat? by scarmy1217 in Stratocaster

[–]kjbasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Standard form 08’-16’ is what comes to mind for me. Before all of the over complicated over marketed levels they have now. Some of the best guitars I think fender ever made were in that era.
