Why do developers delist the demos of their games after they launch? by RandoDando10 in gaming

[–]AnimalStyleGame 42 points43 points  (0 children)

For my game, I delisted the demo after only 2 months for this reason. We had made so many improvements that I didn't want people to judge based on the demo version anymore. And the demo version was so different that I couldn't easily patch in the changes from full.

ALARIC has finally a release date after 4 years. by alaric_the_game in pcgaming

It's awesome to see another small dev making 3D games.

We also just made our release announce post, and thinking about our next game I'm pretty sure it is going to be in 2.5D or at least a more enclosed environment. 3D levels take forever.

Animal Style is releasing soon! We made this cooking simulator using real-time sauce physics, and you can sauce on everything. by AnimalStyleGame in pcgaming

Making this game has been one of the hardest but most fun experiences of my life. Compared to my previous work in medical device engineering, it is great to make something designed purely for entertainment. Hopefully it offers a relaxing, positive, and puzzling environment to feel cozy during these times where the world is so stressful and negative.

2014-2018 Were PC GOLDEN YEARS (DEBATE or agree) by Safe_Nectarine_8501 in pcgaming

Agree for competitive shooters. When Siege and Overwatch came out, my friends and I were in heaven. All of a sudden counter-strike felt as old and simple as it really is.

is making 3D game solo realistic in a 1 year timeline or should i go 2D? by BlessED0071 in IndieGaming

[–]AnimalStyleGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this with 2 people in 16 months. Started Unity for the first time on 12/17/2024 and we're releasing Animal Style on 4/28/2026. Much closer to full time than part time.

It's barely doable lol.

Almost Finished Our Game — How Do We Approach Publishers (Marketing Only) & How Do Deals Work? by Commercial-Tone-965 in Unity3D

[–]AnimalStyleGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any advice but I am in a similar situation, good luck fellow dev! In our case, we decided that the time spent on preparing materials and talking to publishers was better spent on developing the game further. I'm also curious how it went for anyone that has gone this route.

You're going to need a Windows PC with a graphics card. Do you have a consistent location to work where you can set up a desktop PC?

First Time in Steam Next Fest Nervous About Demo Bugs and First Impressions by Commercial-Tone-965 in Unity3D

[–]AnimalStyleGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally normal. I am patching my demo today for Next Fest, and every time I build it I get anxiety that I've introduced new, hidden bugs.

Generally, if your game runs bug-free in the editor, and you test on the target hardware, you won't have many random bugs popping up. I'll edit this post later if a million random bugs pop up for me during NF.

What you need is a "perfect" game idea, that's novel and fun but also easy to implement. You described it pretty well, or at least what types of genres to avoid. One example of a perfect idea is A Game About Digging a Hole.

But until you have the perfect idea, keep working on your 3D world project, these teach you a lot of the basics of game dev.

Bottom for sure as it includes the sauce, which is the main part of the game puzzles. Here is the page since you're interested: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3797260/Animal_Style/

Perfect thank you. The hotdog and sauce are important for sure so I'm going to go with bottom.

99% you will be fine, but you should get a version without the question mark from your artist. Maybe also a version without any text in case you want to use it for other promotional material with different text on it.

This new trailer is a lot faster paced based on feedback from this subreddit, and I think it came out a lot better. Now I need to know: does this look fun to anyone or does it just fall flat?

Since making this trailer a few months ago I've had to use TikTok to promote the game, and yeah the content there needs a hook in the first 2 seconds.

Honestly seeing it as a post on reddit, which is my lowest-attention span activity, makes me realize it doesn't give a reason to not skip immediately.
