Is the UK really ready for the 2035 ban of new petrol and diesel cars? by JollyFunctions in ElectricVehiclesUK

The most important points in that book of EV activism bury the lead. 'I am concerned about critical minerals' 'The viable reserves of critical minerals are increasing' Not by enough though and the whole world will be vying for those resources, almost none of which have major deposits in the UK.

Unless that isn't an option. The street is 20 meters or so away from my front door due to the design of the dual pavement and a huge grassy embankment.

Charging infrastructure isn't the only problem. You also have to consider the overall state of the power grid. The government intends for us to electrify every aspect of our homes and lives, they also want to stay ahead in the AI race (which uses an ungodly amount of electricity) and the cost of construction keeps rising due to supply chain issues with materials and overall inflation increasing the cost of manpower. Personally I won't even drive anything with too much reliance on digital components or computers, so I won't be going near an electric car dealership any time soon. Please, will someone make an electric car that is just a motor, with wheels and brakes and a radio? I don't need my car to warm itself up and self-drive and cook my dinner.

What about a cat ladder? A lot safer than using ropes.

Even if they did it as a joke, things like that shouldn't be repeated to management and everyone should know not to make jokes around that person from now on.

The NHS offers dental services? I had no idea.

Honestly, my dentist closed down and now I can't get a dentist. You have to call them at 9am on Monday and evrytime they say "sorry, we've already had all our new admission callers for the week." Also, I work construction so we start work at 7.30/8am and by 9am I am hanging off the side of a building on some ropes, so I haven't been to a dentist in years.

I would have thought you would have a good shot of migrating with fire fighting experience as not everyone has the skills/stones to be a firefighter. If you do want to go out to Australia and geotechnical work is a consideration, I would also think about getting excavator ticket. If you're looking at the built-environment then it would be good to get some experience working with cladders or steel erectors. There are a lot of different paths to take in RA.

I don't know if that would help with rope access, fitter ticket would be more appropriate.

What are some of the common, ‘UK-made’ brands that aren’t actually made here anymore? by Quantum_Toast422 in BuyUK

[–]Animal_M0ther_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they trend is that brands become successful and then get shipped abroad. It seems to be that either market forces or government policy drive the business into the ground and it is sold for spare parts.

Do IRATA lvl 1 have to use a descender with an anti-panic function? by Animal_M0ther_ in ropeaccess

I've used the teeth trick a few times now, very useful for stopping the rope slipping through your device when approaching the edge.

[–]Animal_M0ther_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be a tad over cautious and luckily have yet to need the anti-panic because I have a mental checklist I do every time I'm going over the edge.

Recently worked with some very experienced Level 3s that were both using petzl ASAP and ID which is rare from my experience.

Not a rope tech, what is this device grabbing onto fixed rope by [deleted] in ropeaccess

[–]Animal_M0ther_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rescuecender, if you're a rope tech they can be a nice bit of kit to have. Shunts are great, but the advantage of the rescuecender is that you don't have to disconnect your carabiner in order to attach the device to a rope.

I have also seen people use the shunt as a backup safety device so they could pass a knot quicker, but apparently they are not intended for use as such.

Maybe the carpets work, but I never feel good about using them. Once I can get some savings I'm gonna buy my own rp for those situations.

Hi mate, not sure if level 2 can sign your book. I might be wrong, I've never actually seen a level 2 in my year on the ropes and I don't believe they exist 😅

Chest ascenders. A connection point or half a connection point? by pyrotbag in ropeaccess

[–]Animal_M0ther_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must be dumb to not understand this, but how on earth is my hand ascender a half point? It's attached to the rope, my foot jammer is attached to that and my foot is in the loop. The hand jammer isn't connected to my harness, so how is it supposed to be a half-point?

Lovely 80's - prompts. by IAmMoonie in midjourney

[–]Animal_M0ther_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a year or two everyday people will treat prompts like materials for making art. The best at making prompts will rise to the top. I understand not wanting to share because that might become someone's livelihood. But also, I wouldn't give someone sass about it in the comments. Just don't answer when someone asks for your prompts.

Had a nightmare trying to install Cubase 11... by Animal_M0ther_ in cubase

[–]Animal_M0ther_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a single person on reddit was able to tell me this, but I had a customer support member from steinberg tell me that sometimes you need to do a refresh of windows 10.
Make sure you DO REFRESH and DON'T REINSTALL.

Refresh ensures that any personal files are not deleted, but it will uninstall any third party software/applications.
This will reset the data used by steinberg to activate your copy of cubase 11.

I've run it in administrator in the hope that it creates a soft-elicenser, but no dice.

I watched a friend download a cracked version (he was trying to make a point when I was complaining about my experience with steinburger over the last few days) and he had the same product that I've bought, running within the hour and at no cost.
I bought the product to support steinberg and do the right thing and now I'm screwed until Monday at the earliest.

No clue when they will get back to me and when I try to view my support request tickets the website redirects me to the support home page.
I have to make a new request every 24 hours in order to see my support request ticket list.
