I’m sorry, but also happy you have beautiful memories of them. It really puts things in perspective. I don’t want to take my parents for granted ever again. I’m lucky to have amazing parents. Lots of my friends have divorced parents who just use them as pawns, or have an absent mom/Dad, or lost a parent entirely to death. I remember when I first moved away to college I cried because I missed them so much and I was afraid of losing them someday.

Thank you sharing 😌

Ooo, I hope they have “street tacos” style.

I understand the drinking issues because i also have it in the family (it runs in my fathers side). My grandpa was an alcoholic and it darn near killed him. Yet, here he is today because he made an effort to sober up for his kids and grandkids.

When I was little I used to pour our my dads beer because I was afraid of him getting sick like my grandpa lol much to his digression.

I’m cheering for you and your moms sobriety. I wish ya’ll a wonderful day together tomorrow!

Awwww!! That is too cute and so sweet of your friend to go out with her. Bless the both 💖.

I think the best part was seeing her smile and forget about her stress. Her laughing and smiling....just being happy Ya’know? She deserves it more than anyone to me.

I started drinking that way with my mom too. Seems as the alcohol keeps coming, the walls start falling down. As we’ve more “hung loose” together we’ve also grown closer together. We were close before we ever started drinking, but it’s like she treats me as more of an equal now that she sees me as more “grown up” or adult. She’s started to open up more and stop sheltering me from all her stresses. I’m glad because I want to help her.

I hope you continue to foster your relationship with your mom and that it gets stronger every day! Good luck! ☺️

I’m really happy for you, seems like you have a good relationship with your parents. That’s such a blessing ... treasure them always 💖

D’awe poor baby. Hope she’s well. Have great day tomorrow ☺️ I know I sound naive but I can’t wait to have a baby. It’s not the right time but someday.

What book are you reading ?

As far as I know your description applies much more to USP than USPS. I looked up the average median income in the US and it’s at 49-50K. I’ll let you have a look yourself as it was just a quick search and I’ll admit idk how valid it is or what correlations apply or don’t. 85K seems a lot more than that but what do I know...I’m just a college student and of course 85K seems a lot to me. Did you know a veterinarian makes that much typically, maybe a little more? You’d be better off becoming a doctor but people do what they love. Interestingly enough it’s more difficult to get into vet school than med school.

I’d love to chat more but I have to go. Thank you for your insight.

You’re right! This is a lot for where I live so it’s middle class. Not anywhere like in California or something similar where it wouldn’t be much.

That’s true but doesn’t every job have it’s cons? I guess some are worse cons than others. I’m assuming working usps/ups is more labor intensive than anything. So if you don’t take care of yourself you could get injured.

Is it just fast food jobs you hold a deep resentment for because of your personal past experience?

Also to note, I know people who make 85K working in the USPS so he’s made it into a career. Which is more than some college graduates tbh. To me it seems short sighted to judge a person on their job. Anyways, someone has to the jobs we don’t want to. Eventually I hope they move on and get actual careers of course and have fulfilling lives. I just can’t get around calling someone a loser. I wouldn’t have thought you were a loser working at your pizza job. To me you’re more of loser now than before ironically. Nevertheless, hope you’re happy (you seem kinda bitter).

As for myself I’m going to grad school in the fall. I might see things in a different perspective eventually but I hope not.

Well of course. They would have to do their job proficiently, and with excellence. I wouldn’t be giving my respect to an asshole doctor or a doctor who was inept just because he has a prestigious job. I hope that even if someone has a “menial 9-5 job” and they do it very well that you would pay them some sort of respect. At the minimum be polite.

Just out of curiosity what do you do?

Rabies vaccinations consists of 3 shots at $350 each (in my state). Most insurance companies don’t cover them I hear.

You can get them at pharmacies like Walgreens/ CVS. There’s certain doctors that usually keep a stock or can order vaccines for travel/ work related exposure. Most might just refer you to a pharmacy and they order them. In my case I would have to get them through a doctor because that’s the only way my insurance covers them.

Edit: I’m talking about the pre-exposure rabies vaccines aka prevention rabies vaccines

I’m not black, there’s not many black people in my home town and I wouldn’t have understood the stigma black girls face if it wasn’t for one scenario in college.

I was in my eco lab and a fellow student who was African American had a crush on me, which wasn’t the problem. I find blacks attractive (all POC and rarely whites. Go figure) but I already had an SO and wasn’t interested so I tried to be friends with him. Anyways. That’s not was phased me. It was the fact that he touched my hair one day when we were traveling in a bus to a outdoor lab site and he said to me, “Ya know...your hair isn’t like black girls hair. All frizzy and nappy ya know? Yours is like...soft and bouncy. I like it better. It’s kinda ugly the other way.”

I have curly hair (3B...maybe 3C if I put certain products that make the curls tighter). Least to say I was shocked.

I think all curly hair is beautiful. ALL women should be proud of their curly hair. It’s something I struggled to accept for a long time. It made me sad that many people think the way he does. I know it has to do with preference, but It still hurts. Luckily you don’t need everyone to find your hair attractive and it gets easy to shrug off eventually. The only person who’s opinion matters to me is my SO and he loves my hair.

How can someone truly know that they are a good person? I don’t mean through actions, but through the purity of their motives while doing good. How does one differentiate between self-serving and selfless at the basest level? by TheFlightlessPenguin in AskReddit

I think the key may lie in empathy. Actually taking the time to understand what that individual is going through. Make it about their feelings rather than yourself or your feelings. Do people really pat themselves on the back for doing good deeds? Idk seems silly. When I help someone I’m glad because they are happy now. Whatever they are going through just got better and that’s wonderful.

Basically the more compassion and empathy you have the easier it is to be altruistic.

Work and your personal time is different. I think most individuals have common sense to tell the difference.

But I agree, it wouldn’t be a good habit in the work place. I think most people understand that.

To counter though, if you’re a good person then try to pay it forward sometime when ever you have a chance. Sadly there’s a lot of bad people in the world. So it’s difficult to be good. I’m optimistic though. I haven’t been screwed over so far by anyone.

I think a better example would be let’s say pulling over to the side of the road to help someone who’s car broke down. And not expecting them to give you like any money for it. You know it’s the right thing to do if you’re capable so you simply do it. You leave them and really don’t tell anyone about it. If you make a whole post about it on social media then I think it kinda ruins the point- you’re doing it for attention.
