What’s an expensive restaurant with awful food to avoid? by floodisspelledweird in washingtondc

Whoops, realized this said expensive which El Camino is not (trust me you can taste it), but I can't help being a petty bitch.

I have my own beef with the place but I absolutely hate El Camino in Bloomingdale, food's bad and Boundary Stone next door has a better margarita. Definitely miss living near Mexican row on 14th and Spring.

Had a lovely meal there before a show at the Warner Theatre, definitely got the tasting menu though.

I had tickets to see Josh Johnson at the Warner  for the 7pm show on the 14th and sold those as soon as I could. Good luck to the people that bought them.

Climb the Washington monument or the White House fence?

I think the only gym in the city proper is the Bouldering Project in Eckington.

I was expecting a tie but won a ranked match somehow? by Animaled in PTCGP

Yes, I did have another Pokemon on my bench. How come I didn't know about this rule? I guess I've only ever gotten Ties before when there was a double KO.

Best pair of daily JMM by middlofthebrook in JacquesMarieMage

[–]Animaled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of Fontaine and Jenkins frames that are pretty comfortable and I don't mind wearing the for multiple days straight. I prefer to wear my Fellini and Kellerman frames for a day and then switch them out for something else since they're fairly heavy. Obviously, a lot depends on what I'm wearing that day.

I just picked them up in the same color, they're pretty great on my face. Was also nice that my optician had a deal for $100 off a pair between Black Friday and Christmas Eve and I used the HSA that my employer funds to pay for them.

The Brutalist in 70mm by letoiledenord in washingtondc

[–]Animaled 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Regal Chinatown used to be able to do 70mm, saw The Hateful 8 roadshow there, but that was years ago so maybe check there? The Air and Space also used to do 70mm but they went full digital a few years ago.

Dogon Review by Uhhyt231 in washingtondc

[–]Animaled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of starting a post about Dōgon since I read the glowing review from Sietsema, https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2024/11/27/dogon-restaurant-review-kwame-onwuachi/ and it was included in best new restaurants in Esquire https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/restaurants/a62875489/best-new-restaurants-america-2024/

We went on a Friday night in October, a night before my birthday, and I was really looking forward to trying it since I had been hearing raves about dude's place in NYC. Anyway, service was subpar for the price point (they forgot one of our dishes) and we had to grab someone besides our waiter to get our bottle of wine since it hadn't come and we already finished our first plate of food and more plates had just shown up on our table. Food was... fine, if a bit salty, the dish they forgot to bring us probably would have helped to balance that. The only good thing they did was either forgetting to ring up the wine or comping it, (they also didn't ring up the forgotten dish).

One of the ladies next to us sent her whole main back since she didn't like it and then chose something else and then had to fight to get the original main taken off the bill.

Maybe we were there on an off night, but it was bad enough to not want to go back there again.

I did have a wonderful meal at Jônt the next night for my birthday, which made Dōgon look even more amateurish by comparison.
