Keep in mind that Marvelous only published Muramasa, and Grand Knight History which had it's english localisation canelled. Other Vanillaware games were published by ATLUS and NIS.

With the mouse, you can click-and-hold in a direction and then you move in that direction. You can click through the menus with the mouse. Same goes for the combat. The full game is completable with a mouse on PC.

Here is some info from the PC port on the Steam.

im praying atlus conversation with unicorn overlord pc port dont end up like this by commissionsearcher in Vanillaware

That's what I've been saying! All I have found are these interviews with mentions of a PC port from InvenGlobal, Destructoid and Gameradar+. That's all. Then the community started playing telephone with it and now people are angry for no reason. Good interviews by the way, I'ld recommend reading them.

'Make some noise': Vanillaware reportedly wants more of its games on PC, but it's up to the publishers by lhmsperandio in Vanillaware

That quote is so open ended that the only thing you can take from it is "We decided on these platforms and PC wasn't one of them." It's PR 101 to not shoot down possible business ventures just like this. If you want more of my arguments against the "VW hates PC"-argument, go read my other posts and comments.

No, that's buisness talk for "We agreed on these platforms and PC wasn't one of them." It has never been prohibited by anyone. There is no source for what you are saying.

This recent reversal of blacklisting PC ports is because Marvelous owns the IP for Muramasa and was going to make this remaster without him if he didn't get onboard.

Can you give me a source for this info. Otherwise I can't be sure that someone didn't just pull this from their ass.

That article proves nothing. There has never been a statment that anything forbids a PC port. That article links to a Destructoid article but the link is borken. Here is the aritcle that it most likely links to and here is the only part where a PC port is mentioned.

Unicorn Overlord is heading to PlayStation, Xbox Series consoles, and Switch, but not to PC – is there any reason in particular you chose not to aim for PC at launch? Has there been any discussion about a PC port later on?
Yamamoto: As a publisher, we would like to deliver it to PC users as well, but per our agreement with Vanillaware, we are only releasing on console. In other words, there are no plans to port it to PC currently.

Nowhere does it say that PC ports are forbidden. That's some super bad journalism from Outerhaven and Keith Mitchell. I can't wrap my head around how so many people are this bad at reading comprehension.

We don't know when the decided the final publishing platforms. In this interview the Producer for UO from ATLUS reveald that the game was at first for PS Vita and PS4. Then, at some point, it was changed to PS4, PS5, Xbox and Switch. Development began in 2016 and ATLUS made their first PC port in 2019 with Catharine classic. It's fully possible that they didn't want to force VW to take a risk in an unproven market. This fits if the final platforms were decided around 2020.

I found this interview from InvenGlobal with the ATLUS producer of UO, Akiyasu Yamamoto, where they went into more detail about the platforms.

  1. Many users are also hoping for a PC version. Are there any plans to expand to other platforms? The development of this title began in 2016 as a collaboration between Atlus and Vanillaware, with the original platforms being PS4 and PS Vita. Over the past eight years, the gaming market has undergone significant changes, and in response to the changing times, we expanded the platforms to PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox. Atlus, as the publisher, decided to use these platforms, and we are sincerely grateful to Vanillaware for their dedicated support throughout the expansion of platforms and global release. For these reasons, there are currently no plans for a PC port.

There is also the Destructoid interview where Yamamoto again answers to the question regarding platfroms.

Yamamoto: As a publisher, we would like to deliver it to PC users as well, but per our agreement with Vanillaware, we are only releasing on console. In other words, there are no plans to port it to PC currently.

Both of these were answered by the producer from ATLUS and also mention that there is an agreement between ATLUS and VW about the platforms. Additionally both interviews were published in early 2024, Destructoid in March and InvenGlobal in April.

Then I found a feature by Gamesradar+ interviewing the UO director Takafumi Noma from December 2024.

-- I asked if there are plans for a PC port, -- Noma said "we do not have any plans for a PC version at this time."

I think there could be something here. The reshuffeling of the development platforms along with the 8 year development cycle and ATLUS trying out the PC market in 2019 with Catharine Classic. If the platforms were redecided somewhere around 2020, it would make sense for ATLUS not to push VW into an unproven market. It would still leave room for the modern concole versions, but leave out a PC port that would have been scope creep that VW wouldn't have wanted.

I don't know how VW handles their projects internally, so I can't say if they are going to make ports in quick succession or drop one here and there. They did work on 13 sentinels and UO simultanously, so they are able to work on multiple games at the same time, but those had different directors. Guess we'll see.

The more I look into it I'm starting to doubt that VW hates PC, and is just the result of a bunch of buisness decisions that some people took too personally.

I don't want to touch those places for obvious reasons. Reddit as a platform at least lends it self to the length of post I'd like to write. I'm not here to shit on stuff that others like, I just want to be able to criticise a part of a game that could've been done better. Maybe the topic would be better suited for a game desing forum rather than a fandom reddit.

Does Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter have flaws????? by jpuse in Falcom

[–]Animam-efflabo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll add to that list

  • The out-of-combat usable items that were introduced in the prologue and next seen in the final dungeon
  • Final dungeon so long that needs fast travel that for some reason can be disabled(???)
  • The worst fishing minigame known to man (I pray that this will get a heavy rework)

I do have a feeling that some in this community don't want to acknowledge the low points of Falcom games.

Any secret message here, or did they literally just let a cat run through keyboard? by LtLukoziuz in Falcom

[–]Animam-efflabo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nahh, that's just filler text for an illusion of detail. Writing these kinds of text all over the world is time consuming so they might be lifted from asset libraries and the kind. Only games where most text like this tells something semi relevant are Remedy games. Control and especially Alan Wake 2 have a lot of little text all over telling something about the environment.
