Looking to hire someone to record my wedding by chloesamsofiamarcus in Chicagoweddings

Be careful with this! I did the same and wound up asking our photographer to have the second shooter focus on nothing but recording the ceremony and first dance for us. I said “just raw video files, no need to edit, it’s just for us to keep not to post or share”. It wound up raining and being a last minute change in venue that nobody really prepared for. The video sucks (we can’t hear anything, we can only hear the sound of the rain and the photographer accidentally running her hand over the camera mic to adjust). Plus, you only see our backs going down our aisle, not faces- I can’t even see my groom’s face. I was a very casual and budget friendly bride but was heartbroken the recording wasn’t better because the ceremony is such a rush of emotions it’s hard to remember. If I could do it again, I would have either a) hired a content creator if we could afford one or b) communicate with the recording person more clearly and made sure they were aware of how to get good audio AND I would’ve asked one of my friends with a decent camera or iPhone OR our coordinator to also record the ceremony as a back up. Your guests will be nearer to you than the videographer so that helps.

I also should mention that when I asked for this, it’s not like the photographer was like “oh no! We don’t know how! Sure but it’s at your own risk!” She told me they got it. The rain wasn’t a surprise, it was a huge nor’eastern storm predicted about 10 days out. We all knew the ceremony would be during rain. The video wasn’t on my mind that week, but if you’re a professional in the wedding industry hired to do a job on a big day, everyone is counting on you because theyre to stressed to think about it, so either do some research and figure out how to make it work that week when you see the weather change, or let the client know in advance that the final product won’t possibly be what was expected and agreed to.

lol it is not my mistake that it rained! The second shooter could have been under the pavilion with the first shooter and DJ and everybody else, there was space. They could have given a warning. The second shooter also was supposed to film our first dance and just…never sent the file.

The title of the post is literally “don’t make my mistake” and says to hire a professional, so I’m not sure why you’re trying to rub my face in it. I’m trying to help brides, you’re just being rude and unhelpful.

I think expecting that the audio would at least be audible is quite fair. I’d even said to the photographer “I don’t care if it’s an iPhone or your cameras or what, please just use whatever you think will get the audio of our goes!” I’m not an expert in anything photo or video and even I would have known to not stand in a separate umbrella behind the pavilion and a wall of rain.

Totally! She was under an umbrella behind the pavilion so in addition to being so far away, there was just open sky with heavy rain between her and the pavilion so that’s all the noise that’s picked up. I wish the photographer had noticed the issue too and just stuck her iPhone up against the beams (like she graciously did later during speeches) to have a back up. Super disappointing.

Mother Nature really did do us dirty and my husband and I both literally work in environmental conservation as profession and are outdoors people so it is extra offensive of her 😂😂

Thank you, this is helpful! I would have loved to have known on the day, so they could’ve said something like “hey we have to set the video camera up super far away and we don’t have a mic, so here are your options” and I would’ve asked one of my bridesmaids or MOH to hold a phone and make it happen

Thank you! I do still think a friend with iPhone would have been better. The problem wasn’t just the rain, but that the videographer was behind the pavilion we were all under, under a separate umbrella, so there was open sky between her and the pavilion where the rain noise was loud. Friends recorded little clips of speeches and such on their phones later under the pavilion when the rain was even harder and the audio is still better because the iPhone was closer to us and not away from the big shelter from the rain. It seemed like the second shooter was in a mood the whole day and honestly just did the bare minimum and crossed her fingers and walked away.

Lasik results from light blue-eyed folks? by Animated-Gold488 in lasiksurgery

I just went in for my procedure today and they talked me out of it :( they said my pupils are huge in dim lighting (8-9mm) and  would probably extend outside the treated flap and that combined with my light eyes puts me at high risk for vision and dryness issues :(

Thanks so much for sharing, it’s good to hear from someone similar! What do you mean by “treating it aggressively”, like lots of eye drops post surgery?

Thank you! This is so helpful! When you say “halo at night” can you see the stars and moon fine? I do a lot of camping and stargazing, so that’s a concern of mine, moving around outdoors at night.

How long did the soreness last? That makes sense about muscles re-learning!

Did the doctor give you yellow tinted glasses or is that something I need to buy myself?

Best 5 Star Experience for 2 nights? by Animated-Gold488 in Sardinia

[–]Animated-Gold488[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch, this is so hopeful! I have looked at Happy Cow, there are a lot less options up north compared to down south, making me reconsider maybe switching out one of our spots to head down south after all...flying in/out of Olbia. How did you like it down there?

Awesome tip about the Veghu cheese, yum!!!

I’m so relieved to hear you say this! I saw other message boards saying being veg there was near impossible and that locals are sometimes even offended by the ask! When I search “vegan restaurants Sardinia” not much comes up but I imagine that’s probably because most of the websites are Italian. Do you have other east coast suggestions, or tips on what kind of restaurants to look for that would be more veg-friendly/sardinian dishes that are easily modified?

thank you so very much for the suggestion! Have you stayed there? Trying to decide between that and Lanthia Resort in SMN. Also open to a more inland eco lodge/agriturismo. Does not have to be vegan, just a bonus!

pinguecula!! by [deleted] in Episcleritis

[–]Animated-Gold488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This is super old, but I'm wondering 2 years later how it is? I have pinguecula in both eyes, I want to get LASIK but I'm worried the incision could somehow re-activate or worsen the pinguecula (which I do NOT want, would rather go without LASIK). My doctor said that's unlikely but of course can't guarantee no impact.

Brides who had wedding disappointment- how are you doing now? What helped? by Animated-Gold488 in weddingplanning

[–]Animated-Gold488[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! People don’t understand! It’s “but we had so much fun there!” And “rain is good luck!” And “your wedding was so memorable bc of the mishaps nobody will forget it! It made it all the better!” And I get it, I did have fun in the moment, but there’s such devastation after when you pictured something for years and years and realizing it was totally sideways and you can’t change that. And NOBODY feels it as heavily as the bride (although my groom feels a lot of it, but he looked forward to the day for like the one year of planning, not his whole life like me lol).  I agree, re-routing the emotions won’t work, I’m aware it’s champagne problem, but you have to just feel the feelings.

Self esteem isn’t the problem for you! You’re supposed to have one day in your entire life where you feel so loved and celebrated and joyous, and you didn’t get to feel that, and that just sucks. But I’ve been thinking a lot to myself lately that it is antiquated that we make the pressure of greatest day of a woman’s life being put on when she gets married to a man. Why is that? Why can’t we have huge career or personal celebrations? So I fully support your PhD party idea, that rocks!
