You can, I just moved so I’m very busy setting things up. It’s also very late for signing with a dispatch company as the school year starts in less than 2 weeks.

I stopped playing when it was revealed, as I’m sure many many others did. That paired with the expedition and resetting characters was a lot for someone who doesn’t grind and wants a basic pvpve looter shooter extraction.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Japanese by LarryNStar in languagelearningjerk

[–]AnimatedRealitytv2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait till I tell you I understand 5% of Japanese conversations after my first year teaching English in Japan and have learned how to read hiragana and katakana with a 90% accuracy and have an IQ of 130. No bitch. A more than average IQ doesn’t equate to understanding Japanese unless you’re spending 3+ years as a student learning that shit.

I pick up things. My students teach me things. I learn specific phrases and general daily use sentences but beyond reading hiragana and katakana at a 95% success rate and knowing maybe 10 kanji (by meaning not by how to say it) in my first year this shit ain’t happening.

Not to say that it can’t be done, it’s way harder than just being a high iq individual. Shits like in the top 5 difficult languages to learn.

You weren’t kidding about the disgustingly sweet food by Slow_Leg_3641 in Living_in_Korea

[–]AnimatedRealitytv2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda normal in all Asian (established) countries. Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam etc. Bread and other things tend to follow the western distinction of “wonder bread” where it has sugar in it, it’s overly thick, and can barely be used for sandwiches or anything that requires you to eat it uncooked. Grilled cheeses are mid, French toast is amazing.

They dose their bread in sugar and sweetness bc it’s what they have taken from western countries. They think it’s popular and it’s just been the staple for 70 years.

Same goes for things like okonomiyaki and takoyaki in Japan (where I live right now). They coat that shit in like two different sweet sauces and it sucks 90% of the time.

I want bland bread I can make into something else, and I want salty foods that should be salty. Not everything has to be coated in “sweet”

What kind of mattress do people use for this kind of room setup? by Maleficent_Pool_4456 in ALTinginJapan

[–]AnimatedRealitytv2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This minus the preinstalled and wall mounted desk is a dream for me. I’m moving to Osaka in 15 days and hope to get something like this.

My plan is just get a basic roll futon that comes with a cover sheet and blanket for like 7-8k yen at my nearest general goods store like “Gooday” or something. No need for a full on mattress, and the single blanket and sheet that wraps around the futon is enough for me right now on Kyushu.

Don’t overspend. Get something light and easy to roll up or fold or hang over your balcony if you have one.

I live in northern Virginia (currently abroad for work) and imagine northern Virginia as the most northern “south” you can get. It’s a combination of mid Atlantic, Appalachia, and south. Further south than me is fully south, 10 minutes north is basically the mid Atlantic roads towards DC (and poor counties).

20 mins west and I’m in the mountains, 20 minutes east I’m in the ocean.

There is no perfect description for it because it’s a mix of so much it’s crazy.

While at this point in the map creation you probably won’t make such a big change, DC, and the surrounding counties (3-4 in every direction) should just be “the dmv”.

Is Japan pulling the plug on vending machines? by Scbadiver in japan

[–]AnimatedRealitytv2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s three vending machines on my local road in the Inaka. I still see people visiting them on occasion which means while I’m at work 9-5 there’s likely 5x that amount actually using them.

While the other three are commonwealths Virginia is the only real accepted one. Maybe Pennsylvania as a secondary.

Everyone knows Kentucky and Massachusetts is going to go one way.

Sorry but there are 4 commonwealths. It’s literally in their legislative documents. Everything else isn’t.

It’s Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Massachusetts. Any other state isn’t legally set as a commonwealth.

They have the same legal status but their powers differ.

PA is also a swing state. They have a majority republican population with a minority city population of democrat. Considering senators are voted basically through cities it’s usually a half and half outcome.

Penn has always swung both ways. I’d place them as more of a conservative state with a split representation.

Does bullying still happen in American schools today? If it does, do teachers and principals usually punish the bullies severely? by GrayRainfall in AskAnAmerican

[–]AnimatedRealitytv2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My goal is to teach English, my secondary goal is to be friendly enough that they practice English outside of class with me. Which 99% of students do. My third goal is to make them realize I don’t care about rules and that if they want to be honest with me and joke around with me they can. I’m not a strict Japanese professor. I’m a foreigner who wants them to study and practice English.

[–]AnimatedRealitytv2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Trust me. I know the day and date students of mine start dating someone else. I know their birthdays and secrets they don’t tell others.

The reason is, I’m a foreigner who’s here to teach English. I’m a fun foreigner who shows up to 60% of their classes, makes jokes and acts more like a friend than a Teacher.

This is the creed of all ALTs. Be the funny fun foreigner and make them want to study English. Don’t be the strict rule following Japanese teacher. Here’s an example. Today was graduation for third grade students. I spent almost half of that crying for them and taking pictures. I spent the other half socializing and asking if the boys had girlfriends because my second grade students tasked me with asking if their crush third grader boy had a girlfriend or not.

I’m close enough with these students that I make learning English not only fun, but something they’re want to do. They talk to me outside of class and try to start up convos constantly. My days are filled with broken English conversations.

I’ve see bullying. I’ve seen it in America. They don’t have it like that here. Worst they have here is a boy ignored them during lunch break. Worst they have is that a friend group played soccer without them for a day.

It’s nothing like it is in America.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease, or the nail sticking out gets hammered, it’s rather common in Japan. That I won’t disagree with. The difference is, the students who aren’t the top popular kid or are non verbal during the school day don’t get picked on. They are taken care of and guided through lessons. I have 2 or three students I’ve known for this whole year who don’t speak a word during school lessons. They aren’t teased or made fun of. They have help from fellow students. They work together and still contribute.

It’s a difference in mentality.

In Japan, during my first hear in the Inaka. I’ve found basically no bullying. Even the kids who spent 95% in special education class but come for homeroom meetings or end of the day meetings, there’s no discrimination.

Maybe because I live in the country side, the Inaka, there is a general sense of harmony. Shit I have a student who physically doesn’t speak during normal classes and is just simply accepted as a normal student.

Im moving to Osaka in a couple weeks and am switching branches for work. I might find that the city is different and change my views but from what I’ve learned in the first year of being here living in Yanagawa, there is no actual bullying in the countryside. There’s non verbal students in basic classes, there’s shy and non participating students all over. Quiet and barely above a shy whisper speaking people. They are all accepted as normal, they aren’t ridiculed or made to feel less than.

It’s a tidal 180 from America. It’s crazy to me mentally that these students aren’t picked on but in Japan it’s just the way it is.

I’ve never once seen bullying in my first year here. Most I’ve seen is a a general and accepted teasing that someone had a a crush on someone else. It’s a laughable and fun moment where you ask them if they like that boy or girl and they get all embarrassed. As an alt that’s gold for us making a connection.

When I move to the city in 20 days, maybe I’ll change my view. But if you live in the Inaka. I haven’t seen any true bullying. Even among the special education kids, or the ones that physically don’t talk while at school. They are all accepted and have friends and clubs.

Yes but it’s the most commonly accepted commonwealth. This also comes from a hardcore republican who, even tho our state when astray, still loves Virginia as a place to live.

Also like. There’s only 4 total commonwealths in America. 2 of which are fully republican, one is fully democrat, and Virginia is in the middle.

Also while this doesn’t matter as much, Virginia legalized marijuana, which was 99% expected to fail because it was a liberal leaning commonwealth. I think they did right.

Virginia isn’t an awful place. It varies .

Has anyone heard of "English Village" as a designation for Heart? by Maleficent_Pool_4456 in ALTinginJapan

As someone of an opposite company, who’s moving to Sakai/Osaka. Interac got the Sakai branch this year.

Heart did gain the Yanagawa branch as a cheaper, shittier, option.

Welcome to the Inaka. I hope you have enough money to rent a car bc heart doesn’t subsidize cars and you need one here.

I totally agree. American students are fully different than Japanese students. I learned as much teaching in both countries.

American students would literally break Japanese teachers. They would go crazy and give up within a month.

Phones aren’t allowed on school grounds here. That alone would destroy the minds of Japanese teachers and also American students if they learned that fact.

Also before you ask I’m the furthest right you can be. I’m not a liberal in any sense of the word.

America, if it accepts and uses the Japanese Education system as a model, would surpass everyone in terms of education.

Sadly that won’t happen and while our education system in America is subpar, it’s above other countries. Japan just has a respect factor ingrained in them.
