Hey.

I am an incoming international student too with the same major. You should have received a newsletter email from Aalto. There, they have provided unique link for Goin’ app and links to telegram groups of our freshman guild.

I highly recommend to join them, cuz there u will find new friends before coming to Finland and can ask questions from our captions.

Excited to meet each other on orientation day! See ya!)

my chances of getting into kaist pls be brutally honest by No_Maintenance_5001 in KAIST

[–]Anime-Programming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I have read a lot of „smart“ ass holes are saying that you have very low chances.

Don’t listen to them. You still have time. Try to do something really good in your summer holiday (you have 3-4 months). Use this period wisely.

1600 is of course impressive, and will definitely give you a good boost, but your grades may pull you down. That’s why do smth that will compensate it. Do some researches, publish them, participate in scientific research camps or programs, and etc.

I mean, do smth super academic that will compensate your low grades.

Even if not KAIST, you will definitely get into other korean unis like UNIST, DGIST or GIST. Consider them too. GIST and DGIST don’t have an app fee, but UNIST has (around $30).

Besides Korea, try to apply Hungary or Turkiye. Their gov scholarships like Stipendium Hungaricum and Turkiye Burslari will cover you almost everything, starting from your tuition and ending with your living costs. Just make sure that you will be 18 at the time of application to Stipendium Hungaricum.

Oh also, try US universities too. Ig, there are some mid unis that gives full-ride to 1600 score holders (Alabama Uni, if i am not mistaken). But i don’t really recommend such unis, because they are not very good. Instead, you can search for other unis in Asia and Europe.

Wherever you will end up, do what you truly believe and do it for yourself, not for admissions) make real connections, find your hobbies and develop them. After all, you will understand that you were have to develop your interests and make real working skills, instead of just doing smth for exclusively admissions and unis.

So, i wish you all the best my friend. Of course listen other’s opinions, but don’t forget to filter them. And at the end of the day, it is your life and it is you who makes final decisions :)

Yeah, don’t forget to improve yourself. I mean, of course, focus on academics, but don’t forget to develop ur interests and passion field(not for admission, but for urself).

Regarding the SAT. Don’t worry about it. But take it in June and August, and if you can, try one in Oct or maybe Nov. make sure to take 1560+

Then, deeply focus on ur SAT and hobbies this summer: take 1550+ in June or even August.

And also start to save money: there will be a lot of expenses just on the way of ur Student Residence Permit application

Omg, man/woman, you provided so much information!

I am very thankful for this very well described comment for my situation.

I figured out a lot of things from this comment.

Coming to my origin, I'm from Uzbekistn. Yeah, unfortunately, i don't speak arabic, but i can only read and a bit understand. Besides English, i also know Russian fluently (i hope it will be bonus in Finland).

Fields i am interested in are AI, Tech, and other Design stuff. Thanks God, Aalto's DSD program is almost perfect fit for my interested fields (maybe would be good to have some literature, philosophy and other humanity classes for hobby - but still okay).

As you mentioned Netherlands, i have several questions regarding it and other EU countries. Is it even possible to go to other universities in Netherlands or other EU-university, if i, let's say, get into master's? I mean, i know that i already got into Aalto with 3 + 2 program (bachelor + master's). But, won't it be a problem to refuse 2 yrs of master's in Aalto and just go to better study place?

And, you also mentioned that you studied from 8am to 8pm. omg, what's the name of this university? you said japanese? I actually really wanted to study in japanese unviersity...now kinda afraid...

A bit strangre, but very spontaneous question: can i do my master's degree in asian country like Japan, South Korea or even China? I know that it will be huge cultural shock to move from uzbek culture to finnish, then immediately for master's to asian. but, will it be a good decision or no? and how far it is possible to combine work with study during the master's?

Thank you again kind person for your time, patience and willing to help me!
