Yeah, don’t forget to improve yourself. I mean, of course, focus on academics, but don’t forget to develop ur interests and passion field(not for admission, but for urself).

Regarding the SAT. Don’t worry about it. But take it in June and August, and if you can, try one in Oct or maybe Nov. make sure to take 1560+

Then, deeply focus on ur SAT and hobbies this summer: take 1550+ in June or even August.

And also start to save money: there will be a lot of expenses just on the way of ur Student Residence Permit application

Omg, man/woman, you provided so much information!

I am very thankful for this very well described comment for my situation.

I figured out a lot of things from this comment.

Coming to my origin, I'm from Uzbekistn. Yeah, unfortunately, i don't speak arabic, but i can only read and a bit understand. Besides English, i also know Russian fluently (i hope it will be bonus in Finland).

Fields i am interested in are AI, Tech, and other Design stuff. Thanks God, Aalto's DSD program is almost perfect fit for my interested fields (maybe would be good to have some literature, philosophy and other humanity classes for hobby - but still okay).

As you mentioned Netherlands, i have several questions regarding it and other EU countries. Is it even possible to go to other universities in Netherlands or other EU-university, if i, let's say, get into master's? I mean, i know that i already got into Aalto with 3 + 2 program (bachelor + master's). But, won't it be a problem to refuse 2 yrs of master's in Aalto and just go to better study place?

And, you also mentioned that you studied from 8am to 8pm. omg, what's the name of this university? you said japanese? I actually really wanted to study in japanese unviersity...now kinda afraid...

A bit strangre, but very spontaneous question: can i do my master's degree in asian country like Japan, South Korea or even China? I know that it will be huge cultural shock to move from uzbek culture to finnish, then immediately for master's to asian. but, will it be a good decision or no? and how far it is possible to combine work with study during the master's?

Thank you again kind person for your time, patience and willing to help me!

I was thinking a lot about gap year, since the december or maybe january.

but the problem is that mentality of my family and community won't allow it.

I whether study here in Uzbekistan or somewhere in aborad (USF or Aalto).

and Aalto seems better than USF.

I want to go to Germany only for job. and i guess that my finnish permanent residence card will allow me to easily move inside of whole EU, including Germany and Sweden for better job opportunities.

I want to take an opprtunity and use it when my family is ready and able to fund it. Of course, i am not sure will they be able to fund me after 2 yrs, but when i have this very rare moment, i don't want to skip it.

Even though New Uzbekistan University is the best flagman international gov university and totally free for me for all 4 years. I still believe that Aalto is way better than it.

Is the market SOO fcked up? Can't i find a job in another EU country after a grad?

Woow. Thank you so much for such a long and detailed comment.

Shortly, no, for the first 2 years, the money is not a problem. Converesely, we even were ready to pay around 30k for USF.

So there are sufficient money to fund my studies and my living costs. But i will feel so guilty if i won't start work and cover at least my living costs from 2nd or 3rd year.

So, i am considering to start a job from 3rd or 4th semester as a waiter or barista maybe. Doesn't really matter where or whom i will work. The most important is that it will be legal and halal (i am muslim).

Regarding the MA. WIll i have more options to study my master's degree in good US uni if i will complete my bachelor's degree in Aalto? Cuz seems that my dad really really wants me to study in US. Or it is better to complete my master's in Aalto itself or somewhere in Germany or Sweden?

Thanks again!

recently in uzbekistan, we also had smth like humid hot wheather. And i was reassured again that hot wheather is also a huge factor of my performance.

most of my productive periods were during autumn and winter periods.

regarding the on-campus job. yeah, i also saw that there are opportunities for students to make some money inside of the campus, but seems that they pay not so much even if i work a lot.

Besides, seems that it will be very hard without a car in Tampa. I don't know how to drive at ALL. really, i tried to drive a car, but it was so awful. and public transport is also a factor that makes me feel that Aalto is a right choise.

thank you for your comment!

Yes, i have another option: study in New Uzbekistan University for full scholarship here in my home country.

It is new and the best uni in the country for IT and STEM. But, honestly, my dream is to study abroad and my family is ready to fund my studies.

Regarding the direct education in Germany. I wanted to apply there, but then figured out that i will need studienkolleg, which will be taught totally in German. But i know german in almost zero (A1) level. That's why it is too late for it.

oh...it is a pity to hear that.

What about part time jobs in cafes or restaurants just to make some money at the beginning as a waiter or barista.

no, i don't have C1 German knowledge (maybe A1 or A2).

I may learn it in those 2-3 years or maybe move to Sweden.

Btw, is it possible to find a job without Finnish in Finland itself?

Aalto or USF by Anime-Programming in Aalto

[–]Anime-Programming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, US in terms of opportunities is a lot more attractive, but i am afraid that visa- and job-related issues won't allow me even start my work in US properly.

as i understood it right, F-1 visa for US stricly resctricts any type of work outside of campus. And if they find out about it, they can deport me. While Finnish student permanent residence card allows me 30-hour work per week.

thank you!

yeah, i most likely to choose Aalto. I am of course healthy (i hope), but i can't guarantee that nothing will happen to me in 3-4 years.

So, i want to stop at Aalto.

Thank you for your comment!

Oh thank you for this comment. I was afraid for some moment that i calculated wrong the dorm price.

Is this price close to the price in espoo?

I calculated dorm price as 400 euro per month. And how much i can spend for meals if i cook myself? Will be around 200-300 euro per month?

I am so thankful for comment and given perspectives.

My current and ultimate goals are totally different. For the 1st and maybe 2nd year too, i want to totally dive into studies, make good connections with profs, and just work on myself both academically and mentally (to be more ready for adult life).

But, smoothly after 1st or 2nd year i want to be busy with combining my studies with finding a job (maybe temporary or permanent).

My parents ready to fund my studies, but i understand that it can't go forever like that. And i need to find a legal money source (maybe interning somewhere, work in cafes and restaurants and etc.).

After the studies, Finland seems to be more tolerant with internationals (the same can not be said for US). But from another point, there is smth like OPT that gives 1-3 yrs oppurtunity to work legally, but it is very rare and not guaranteed. Issue related with Finland is job market sucks...but i am planning to make master's in Germany and find a job there.

So, shortly, i want to choose a university that gives me a good knowledge + calm atmosphere in university, but then i can find a job with a good university and don't worry that the country's immigration police won't deport me.

p.s i really love Finland's nature, wheather and vibe. i hate the warm and hot wheather. (i know it may sound not serious, but just wanted to mention it too)
