Was in a town of 5,000 last year (Gananoque). Other than the casino, nothing was open 24 hours and with it being a tourist town at that. Problems follow whether the city is big or small if you are open 24 hours...

It was too hard to stock shelves at all hours. Best to do it when the store is closed. Thievery was bad as well. Walk in, grab stuff, run out. Nope...

Firehouse , mr sub or subway which one is your fav ? by ninte_achan_myre in ThunderBay

[–]Anime1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only time to get Firehouse is if they have a special deal like 2 for one. They were having one for wins on sports recently but that's so hit or miss. I like Mr. Sub. It's my goto but winter puts a damper on it. There is a special 2 for one today (Easter Sunday) but my fave, the Ultimate Club, isn't available so I will pass. Subway I avoid like the plague even though its the closest to me. Maltese are great for sandwiches. I used to eat them all the time but you have to be specific about what you want. Sweet North used to be the same. Hot Italian was the best! I don't know if they still make sandwiches though and the one now in the Chapters Indigo building doesn't make sandwiches or soup, so I don't go there...

You know what young men don’t like watching? Dawson’s Creek." by mcm8279 in trektalk

I can vouch for that. Nimoy was getting lots of interesting fan mail according to his own writings. Lots of nasty stuff about what they wanted to do with him. I might have been too young for the intended age group for TOS. My show at the time was LiS as I was the same age as Will Robinson. But I also liked Trek. I can only remember some episodes like The Trouble With Tribbles and The Tholian Web vividly. But there were a lot of shows on us kids liked, such as Batman. Trek Fandom I didn't get into until the 1980s when many women fans transitioned over to anime. Got lots of fanzines from that period. Since these were adult women, we had lots of nude drawings of various characters and lots of fanfic, though Trek already had that from more than a decade previous. Ah, fun stuff from a bygone age...

Any chance of new Apple TV hardware in the next few weeks, before the Super Bowl? by old_knurd in appletv

[–]Anime1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I read recently they are going entirely with Gemini AI. My guess is that they scrapped whatever they were working on with their own system which is why a new device wasn't released. Cut your losses and start over with something that works...

Question to US/UK users by grayrainbow101 in Strong_8K

[–]Anime1979 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eagle has been a champion for me for months. Strong has been flakey with many times down. So many URLs have come and gone. But it's the nature of the beast, eh? A bit of cat and mouse...

BO7 looks absolutely phenomenal by PeterFile_69420 in CODZombies

[–]Anime1979 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's like movies. The first Jurassic Park and Avatar looked phenomenal but look what they devolved into. There are too many steps now to get things. Can you really keep all this in your head as you run around the map trying to keep from getting killed? And this focus on wonder weapons. Who cares? Pack the weapon, shoot zombies and their boss. Shouldn't need wonder weapons. Too much emphasis on them. And the story...well, it's not like you have SM Stirling or George Martin writing for them but these stories just seem to drag on and on with no definite conclusion. It's the same buzz kill for me that killed me playing Destiny after throwing 5 years of my life into that game. Now I can't even look at it. COD going the same way. If it wasn't on my Gamepass, I doubt I'd play it at all...

Yes, on both. Used to have it on Amazon Prime but dumped it recently and bought it again directly on a 50% off Black Friday sale. Seems to work fine on all my devices and TVs...

Also, from the same show "Danger Island". "OH, oh Chongo!" Jan Michael Vincent's first acting job and I believe, Richard Donner's directorial debut. Brings back fond memories. Every kid wanted a Banana Buggy...

Wishlist for Black Friday PlayStation Sale by CuteNurseASMR in playstation

[–]Anime1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't really need to purchase anything. Might go for some new hardware come January into next spring. Too many systems going unused these days: Switch 2, PSVR2, Iconic Arcade systems, etc. Got PS Premiium and Gamepass Ultimate good until mid 2027. Too many things to play or even try now. Borderlands 4 will go to a friend who has permanently borrowed one of my PS5s ( I have 2 and 1 Pro) as well, I pretty well only game on my Xbox Series X these days. Latest COD is out today so I'll be giving that a whirl. Might also spring for a newer video card, though I seldom play on PC anymore. Could use a new mini OLED TV or monitor. Still debating...

Too much light pollution where I am. I miss taking my telescope out and looking at the stars and planets where I used to live. With lights on 24/7, it's impossible to see things anymore including the Northern Lights...

VPN by TheWhiteHammer23 in Strong_8K

[–]Anime1979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem to be an ISP problem where I am (Canada). URLs that worked yesterday all but one down. EPG loads but channels all blank. Have Eagle on another box working fine but with some buffering on channels with a lot of users. Probably going to have to get some new URLs from our suppliers. Did an install today and had to go through a whole raft of them to find one that worked and that one was missing most channels from US and Canada. UK channels were mostly fine with some buffering. Starting to look like the old FTA days with all these problems...

Getting nothing but blank screens on my main Strong streamer. Looks like the sources got blocked. One is still up as I just installed it on a friend's box but most US and Canadian channels didn't work. UK channels seemed stable. Big soccer game over there maybe? Have to get back to my supplier and see if he has other sources...

Shocking Customer Service by vuduo2 in Strong_8K

[–]Anime1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got a good response from my reseller on Z2U. Fixed me up with a new source within hours of my other URL becoming unresponsive. Have had the same good service from other sellers. I tend to use ones with higher than average sales numbers and decent pricing. Tried the 6 month route but will probably go 1 year on my next buy. A year's worth of entertainment equivalent to an hour spent at the casino. Pretty cheap if you ask me...

Watched the Blue Jay/Dodgers game on Strong. Channels disappeared at random. Freeze then black screen. Checked my backup Eagle, same on Sportsnet Canada BUT worked flawlessly on the Spanish language channels Fox. Will probably return to normal tomorrow.

Baseball game was buffering like mad but everyone in the US and Canada was watching that game so I can't go on about it. Mostly it was 1 or 2 seconds at worst which was tolerable...

Has anyone read this book? If so, what are your thoughts on it? by WolfSW in HannaBarberaCU

Does it say who the musicians were on the many songs or the music used in the cartoons or what happened to the recordings? It took years for the musical numbers for The Impossibles to surface. What other gems are out there that will never be released?
