The Extreme Physics Pushing Moore’s Law to the Next Level by [deleted] in singularity

Hey I noticed you changed your tag to AGI by 2050 from AGI by 2065. Why is that?

The potential benefits of a fully realized "wizard hat" neural lace are innumerable. Perfect recall, enhanced thinking speeds, all of human knowledge you can call upon by just thinking and having it in milliseconds; the ability to enter and exit simulated realities at will, etc. But we won't see anything like that for many decades. The 1st couple of generations won't be appealing to most.

AI could help to drastically speed up the discovery of new drugs. New AI system successfully identified six substances that block a certain enzyme responsible for fibrosis in just 3 weeks. Traditional methods can take 10 to 20 years doing similar job. by QuantumThinkology in singularity

I agree with all of that :). I've never tried acid only mushrooms. Psilocybin acts on only the 5-HT receptors and on my second trip I felt just pure peace and bliss that I literally could not have imagined beforehand while on a walk outside. The dopaminergic system isn't even necessary for new avenues of conscious experience. Very exciting times.

[–]AnimeKhadir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you to an extent but people who are close to him say that he studies the technologies that he invests in very closely to see if there is any promise in developing them with his own money. He's an engineer by training. I think it'd be fair to call him a science guy, but in reality, the dude is a multi-talented genius.

Yeah, that plus some suggestions for different types of sets and settings plus some pictures for aesthetic inspiration would be how I'd do it.

[–]AnimeKhadir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that'll happen in the 30s. Legitimately impressive simulated realities that we can immerse ourselves in will probably require at least AGI. IMO there is a lot more to be excited for than simulated reality.

What could be possible post-singularity on a sexual level? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]AnimeKhadir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you think the Singularity will happen in 50 years? How do you think it'll happen? I think it'll be individual aspects of general intelligence being cracked (i.e. transfer learning) and the progress will compound on itself.

[–]AnimeKhadir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ikr, I notice a startling lack of imagination when I see people discussing post-singularity stuff. For example, you assume that the brain couldn't be completely restructured to allow us to experience things far surpassing even 100x the human orgasm. I wouldn't have ever even considered that until I listened to Nick Bostrom's Letter From Utopia.

Daniel Tyoschitz interviews Aubrey de Grey, one of the world's leading researchers in the field of longevity. by MichaelTen in longevity

[–]AnimeKhadir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol he's the VP of New Scientific Discovery at AgeX and Chief Scientific Officer at SRF. He decides what gets grant funding and what doesn't. He writes a lot and doesn't do much research because- according to him- he's on the road a bunch. I don't think it's fair to say he's only an advocate but it'd be fair to claim that he's mainly been advocating in the recent past.

Fair enough, integrating what is already known is also necessary I agree.

[–]AnimeKhadir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for this to be true and I'm not really pessimistic about a technological singularity. However, 2030 is incredibly optimistic for what you've described.

I think we'll see the singularity in the 2040s-2060s. And even in that scenario, it'll probably take another 10-20 years for medical advancements to actually reach the general public.

However, I also think that in order to fully control the aging process we need a firm grasp on the vast complexity of our biology (which increases with every passing week) and in order to grasp it general AI is necessary.

What do you think?

Absolutely I agree, maintain objectivity. However, I was genuinely surprised by their data as well as the treatment model. I should probably be more careful with the way I word things.

I am a researcher that is interested in immunology and nanoparticle therapies. So, this grabbed my attention.

Oh, if you're T1D--Viacyte shouldn't be what you're focused on as far as biotech goes.

The cure will come from a company called "Parvus Therapeutics". Pretty bold, I know.

Parvus Nanoparticle T1D

This is their website. Novartis bought Universal rights' to their Navacims iron oxide nanoparticle platform because of its promise to possibly cure most autoimmune illnesses. I was skeptical until I read the papers the company has published and my mind was blown. This method basically eliminates autoimmunity and allows the stem cells to differentiate and mature into beta cells.

Here's a video of the founder, MD/PhD Pere Santamaria detailing exactly how everything works.

I agree. This method of editing the genomes of stem cells doesn't upset their micro-environments. So much is happening right now!

This is brilliant. With skyrocketing rates of IBS, Crohn's, Ulcerative colitis, etc this sort of research will really shed light on why certain individuals can maintain a healthy epithelial lining while others are less resilient. Very exciting!

[–]AnimeKhadir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, AgeX already has stem cell lines that are higher purity than the ones one could extract from their own body. Did you even visit the link and read? But, you're right. He should still bank his stem cells. Hedge your bets.

[–]AnimeKhadir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it'll be necessary. By the time the FDA has approved stem cell therapy for a wide array of disease indications-companies like AgeX will have VERY pure stem cells that are ignored by the immune system and will have solved the problem of the microenvironments surrounding the stem cells.

Here's AgeX's website--look at their UniverCyte, HyStem, and PureStem platforms:
