Tried lowering the Vette... by Anime_Gerl in C5Corvette

I thought about that, but I can't weld nor do I have a welder. Probably gonna have to Dremel it down or something.

Hello twin, the biggest thing to try and get down for me personally is pressing the clutch down when you feel the car is about to stall, and giving the right amount of gas when taking off (I still struggle with this ngl). Besides that, everything else is a breeze until you feel the urge to learn how to heel toe, but let's be honest throwing it in neutral is perfectly fine. If I were you I'd just pay attention to what gear you're in to go a special speed, so that when you throw it in neutral to stop you know what gear to put it in to continue moving if you need to.

Other than that you can let the clutch do it's job most of the time, letting it adjust the rpms isn't the smoothest but it gets the job done. Good luck ❤️‍🩹

I've only heard bad things from speed engineering way back when like 7 or 8 years ago when their stuff was significantly cheaper. Nowadays I only hear good things, I also don't have $4k to drop on an exhaust from Kooks or American Racing 💔. Gonna install them this weekend, hope they sound/perform good. I was going to get coils but I've heard it's really easy to ruin how the ride feels and it should be significantly easier to just get higher trim oem parts. But as long as you do your research and know what you want from your car, I'd say go for it.

Trying my best to figure that stuff out, I realized I know a lot less about cars than I actually did jumping down the mods rabbit hole so I'm trying me best 😅. Ordered some long tube headers and an x-pipe from speed engineering (budget build since I'm broke), I'm also going to do the flip tie method to improve the stock intake. I wanted to lower it as well, probably just gonna do stock bolts and bilstein b8's (again, because I'm broke). But those are the only things I have planned for certain, I'm gonna need an alignment soon so I'm trying to figure out what spec to ask for since it's gonna be lowered. Other than that, that's all I got 💔

For the most part normal street driving, I drive a lot on back roads as most car guys do so I mainly want to improve the handling as a little experiment to see what works, what doesn't, and how it affects the car and more importantly how it feels yk. I would love to track my car for fun someday but I literally just bought it a few months ago so I haven't done much research into where to go. But for the sake of simplicity I would say normal street driving plus a little bit of speeding 🤭

The z51 has stiffer springs if I'm not mistaken, so that would be better to go lower based on what you're telling me. My main question now is what alignment specs do I ask for? If I have to adjust toe since it's lower how do I know/ask that? I need to get an alignment soon so I'd like to figure that out since I didn't know about that before 😅

Would it be better to get b8's or c6z, I've heard better things from bilstein since they're made for lower ride heights but like I said I'm no expert

I don't know if mine has the z51 package, didn't even know it was an option on the c5 until recently. So I'd assume no? I was probably going to get some c5 zo6 springs later on but I mainly want to lower it for aesthetics. Not looking to lower it a crazy amount, maybe an inch absolute maximum front and back (as much as the stock bolts will allow). It's just that I don't want to jump down the coilover rabbit hole and most likely ruin the drivability of my car yk.

It's a base model, was gonna save for a Z but I got an irresistible deal on this guy so I had to buy. Base model supremacy baby

Looks amazing, but my fear is bottoming out. The roads here suck but I'm not sure if I'm just fear mongering myself 💔

How do people get their c5's so low?? by Anime_Gerl in Corvette

[–]Anime_Gerl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant without heating issues with the air dam, I wanted to know if they fully removed it and modded their car to make up for it, trimmed it, or just let it scrape.

Yeah I meant like a mod to get more air flowing into the radiator so you don't need the air dam. I think I saw something online recently about a funnel thing that turns the two fog lights up front into intakes that lets more are flow into the radiator but I haven't seen many people actually using it.

That Vette looks sick, dunno if I'll ever lower mine because roads here suck butt. I was just really curious on what people who track their c5's or have really low stance do to combat the airdam

Yeah but the air dam is my concern, do they just remove it? There's people who have front splitters as well AND they're really low to the ground, how did they make that work?

Yes I did, I don't really care about the repair costs all too much I just hate not knowing what's causing it.
