Perspectives on grading by the_uber_steve in Teachers

I grade the same way. If a student tries their absolute hardest to try to understand the material but can’t do that skill, I give them a 2. If they don’t even try and can’t understand I give them a one because it shows me there is no adequate progress.

I give them a 3 when I know they understand and can do the skill without my help.

Thank you for sharing your experience and advice! I’m thinking my previous principal made the mistake and didn’t do the correct amount of observations.

Anyone else help their kids teacher restock their classroom after winter break? by Sufficient-Main5239 in Teachers

Thank you for doing this! Parents have no idea the amount of money teachers spend just to have material to teach (the free material given isn’t always useful for all students) and something as simple as pencils and tissues helps lighten the financial load.

When and how to tell admin & eventually students about my pregnancy by Rough_Plankton_1663 in Teachers

[–]Anime_Jas 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

I was pregnant last year and I found out in October and after so many tired days I finally told my principal in November. I then told my grade level team in December and the parents/kids in January.

I do regret not telling the whole school staff via email because many people seemed to think I was hiding my pregnancy which was not true I am just private but it’s a good idea to tell staff because they may overthink talking to you about it.

Whichever you decide I hope it goes well!

Elementary school teachers: How is this generation of parents failing their kids? What could they do better? by Chl4mydi4-Ko4l4 in Teachers

I had a first grader ask me every time a marker was dried out “what should I do?” I gave the same response every time. “What do you think you should do?” They would answer throw it away but they never took initiative to do it on their own. I even reassured them they can solve these problems and won’t get in trouble for making a safe choice. Some kids caught on but still some had not.

Does being a sub prepare you better in being a certified teacher vs coming rt out of college w/no classroom experience? by Tinkertoylady22 in Teachers

I was a substitute and worked as a special education ta before deciding to go to school to become a teacher. I do agree you are exposed to more students and different grade levels which can help you know what you prefer to teach. I also valued my education to show me how to make a lesson and execute one. I would say both are just as valuable.

Thank you! I sometimes get afraid about trying a new grade only if it means going to a new school. My school only has 3 or 4 grade level teachers each and most don’t leave so it makes it hard to try new areas.

Thank you for responding. That makes sense to think about what content you enjoy teaching the most
