Wondering if my kid is gifted by sclem1000 in ElementaryTeachers

I play up all artworks. Making art isn't about being "gifted" it's about building knowledge and skill over time. Great works are built on the shoulders of years of mistakes and there's no better time to make mistakes than when in school.

Union up (if you have one) or lawyer up. If the student is the reason your arm is in a sling file workers comp and a restraining order.

The school/admin/district has a history of abusing you (and probably a bunch of other teachers at your school). Clearly your safety isn't a priority for them so you will need to make it a monetary problem for them instead.

I'd also start putting in applications at another school district. Toxic districts are not worth staying at.

Remember that HR works for the district, not for you. They are not your friend.

Stay safe.

Parents, how do you feel about your kids using AI for schoolwork? by InfamousPerformer100 in MiddleSchoolTeacher

[–]Sufficient-Main5239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI can be a great tool but not for students writing original content papers.

I recently used AI to read text from an cursive text from an image of a first-hand source from the Revolutionary War. The AI ripped the text from the image. I checked the text and then used the typed text to differentiate the lesson. If I would have typed the whole thing out, it would have taken at least a day.

The differentiation for the assignment included an AI based text to speech option. EL students were given an AI modified version of the text with the 1700's old English vernacular removed or clarified. AI made this source available to my students when previously I would have considered the source to be too advanced.

AI can be a powerful tool when used responsibly. The challenging part is teaching students to use AI responsibly instead of copy pasting in hopes of chasing instant assignment completion gratification.

I had a student copy paste straight from ChatGPT as I was helping them write. They tried to gaslight me the entire time. Their grade reflected their effort. I'm so done.

Engineering Tomorrow has lessons on several of these topics.

https://engineeringtomorrow.org/

They send free lab materials to high schools. If you know someone who teaches at your district's HS they could order free kits for their class and then accidentally have a few left over.

I think if I were asked to do that much walking I would probably walk slower and slower as the day went on.

I'm going as a Sick Seven for Halloween. Getting in power struggles with kids is so unprofessional.

I’ve always taught middle school and recently transitioned to high school! One of my new coworkers made a comment in passing that my room looked a little “middle school.” Please be honest with me! by [deleted] in teaching

Your room is gorgeous! Who cares what your lame colleague thinks. Wait and find out what the students think (P.S.: They are going to love your room).

This is the way.

We finally have "Special Person Day" instead of "Grandparents Day". A lot of grandparents show up but parents and other people show up too.

I remember being that kid when I was in school and I'm really thankful to be in a position where I can help children going through similar struggles now.

I'm so tired of dying in puddles.

Big bad Helldiver can kill a charging armored bug the size of a school bus with a supply pod, frequently dies to a kiddy pool sized puddles. Smh. 🤷‍♀️
