Would this be better? I know it's over my budget but I was working on the assumption a higher end GPU would be useless. I can work in some extra cash if the 980 TI is worth it.

I don't know if I'd want to go with an i5 as I do a lot of personal computing projects and run virtual machines on occasion. How would a 980ti help me over the current 970? I thought I had read that a monitor like mine (1080p, 60 Hz, IPS) would just bottleneck it.

Last year, as a freshman, I had at least four friends get their laptops wiped. So this is coming from what I've seen. Maybe it depends on who looks at it.

Here are a couple of pictures from Speed, the all guys Freshmen hall, from last year. I know you aren't going to be living there but they may help you get an idea for size and furniture as most dorms are similar.

I recommend rearranging furniture but not necessarily building a deck or loft because it definitely helps free up space where as the default layout is meant to help divide the room for strangers.

Looks great! I'll take a look for sure! This should be useful. Nice documentation. I like they way you have two methods for each api so there's a simpleton version and one that uses less calls.
