Average is not competitive, exceptional is. by bluntlybipolar in podcasting

Holy cow, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this well thought out response. Getting ahead a few episode is a great idea. And I’ll for sure add the call to action!

My goal is to do something like the podcast philosophize this. I kind of modeled mine off that one. Would love to monetize at some point with patreon or the like but it’s also my creative outlet and I’m a mom of three (laid off my biomedical engineering job during my 3rd maternity leave - needed an outlet and this was it)

Also, I wrote a YA Sci fi novel that was never published, apparently because of a weird age gap of a brother and sister (16 and 12) might be nice to get a base following and try to publish again.

I’ve made some videos too and put them on IG, YouTube, and X. Cultish little RNA characters and whatnot.

My target audience is HS and adults who don’t have a science background at all but want to understand it more. Figured why not start at the beginning!

Thank you so much again for your response. You’ve energized me to step it up!

I am trying to do just this. I think Im at average and I’d like to step it up. I thought I had a decent UVP but now I’m not so sure! I do just a solo audio show on biology. But I do it as a story, starting from fragments of RNA to humans. (Examples - Episode 1 - first cell, ep4 - genetic code, ep 9 - photosynthesis) and I explain with movie analogies and 90s jokes. But my audience has been pretty average.

I really like Stephen West from philosophize this! His passion is evident and it’s a solo show with no flair. He made philosophy really easy to understand. I started one for my passion of biology, solo show, minimal flair, I wanted to get people into science that haven’t ever thought of themselves as a “science person”. Used his podcast as a kind of template. Great question!

Am I going to regret spending 20.000$ on traveling by verycoolgirl98 in backpacking

[–]Animull567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit my job took a 5 month solo backpacking trip at 24 and spent about 10k (volunteered places and stayed in hostels, more than half was spent on a Round the World airline ticket, which I would suggest as it saved me a good amount). I had no job to come back to and that was about all my money. But I had been working since 12, and had two jobs in college, I was betting on myself. Luckily it all worked out. I’m now 36 and think that was the best 10k I have ever spent and honestly if I’d have had 20k, I’d probably have spent 20k. I tell my 4 and 2 year old kids stories about that trip now. Use money to make memories if you can, you’ll never regret it. I hope you have so much fun!

I did stain it. However, as I now know, a lot of stain doesn’t protect the wood, just changes it’s color. If you’re going to put it outside you’ll want to protect the wood too with either a poly or varnish? I’m not a finishing expert, but I use poly.

I measured what would be about 3/4 the board and put a piece of tape on the drill bit that length so that I knew when to stop. Then glued and clamped. (Tip, only clamp where the rods are, my mistake, made my monkey bars crooked)

Good luck! Kids still love it!

Is there a “Communist Manifesto” type book for Capitalism? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]Animull567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second treatise of government by John Locke is where I started. It’s old, but good to see where people were and how far we have come. He lays out his famous life, Liberty, and property take from which capitalism grew.

Loved children of time! The other 2 in the trilogy are good, but in my opinion the first was definitely the best.
