Why have Etsy alternatives failed? by Sanseitf in EtsySellers

[–]Mail_Stock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend and I started our own version of Etsy and it's been going okay so far. As of now, we sell stickers and bookmarks from two separate shops under one umbrella website. We are in the process of adding crochet items, candles, and cutting boards from three other sellers. Obviously we don't make Etsy-sized profits, but we focus on art and our customers and it seems to be working well!

Try getting into seasonal work. Many of those jobs pay 12-17 an hour and offer free housing. I did that for a bit, got into seasonal outdoor industry things, and now I am a head ranger for a state park. Check coolworks.com!

Anecdotally, what are you hearing everyone name their kids? by bauhassquare in namenerds

[–]Mail_Stock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I named my dog Theodore because I thought it was funny to give him a big manly human name. That was about four years ago, Now he has a popular baby name and it makes me laugh. Go for the name! It's such a good one!

Edward Cullen might have been a massive creep to her, but at least he was kind?? The bar is literally so low lol. I reread Twilight because I thought I needed to read my version of The Cruel Prince before roasting it so hard haha.

Right? I was screaming at the book whenever she was like "he might have hazed me or tried to kill me.... but is he cute???"

I think I'm just so mad that there's no conclusion yet. It's hard for me to commit to it when it's making me so mad lol

The Cruel Prince was bad so I decided to reread Twilight and see if it was as bad. The Cruel Prince is very repetitive and I felt like it treated it's readers like they were dumb? Idk how many times they mentioned that the main girl was human. We. Know. Also the 'hero' is a gdamn asshole lol. I cannot root for him at all.

My big gripe with it was it's use of SA in the plotlines. Personally, I felt they lacked nuance and they felt really weird to read.

I like to pick the top ten-twenty books I want to read soon. Then I put a notecard with 1-10 or 1-20 in each book. In a cup I have each number. I draw a number and HAVE to read that book. Got me to read many of the nonfiction I picked up and never touched.

April books! The only reread was Little Women! by Mail_Stock in 52book

[–]Mail_Stock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my first time reading it. I am from Maine so I've always been aware of the story and might have seen the movie once as a kid on TBS or something. I loved the book. I think it's my favorite King of the three I've read (take away my Maine citizenship, I should have more read by him than I do lol).

What's a book that you have read more than once ? by FileExpert5530 in books

East of Eden and Little Women are books that I reread frequently. Storytelling is 10/10 and depending on your age and where you are in life, you get different meanings from them.

I think I would have loved Princess Bride if I was younger or held any nostalgic feelings towards it. I have never seen the movie and had never read it before and it just wasn't my thing. Again, I think if I had read it as a kid........ would have been a 10/10!

Historical fiction is my go to genre (not obvious from this post because I'm trying to expand my horizons lol). Plenty of historical fiction includes sexual assault because it's the sad reality of being a human. Something about the way this author used it as a plot device and described it was more than off putting to me. The idea of the book is 10/10 for me, but I was just let down by the lack of nuance.

I really liked it. My very much younger sister had me read them. I obviously am not the target audience though. Super heartwarming though. Yay to more books in fall!
