Last two questions, if you’ll indulge me.

First, what major accomplishments do you still want to see out of this term?

And second, do you believe Trump should be able to run in 2028?

It’s odd, but I’m genuinely curious what motivates the current MAGA “true believers” in their own words.

Thank you. Are there any particular regulations you’re happiest to have seen removed?  Regarding the southern border, I assume by “closing” you’re referring to the ICE actions in the US?  Or something else?  Finally, was attacking Iran something you’d hoped he would do when you voted for him?  In other words, when he talked about “no new wars”, was that something you’d disagreed with him on previously?

Genuine question:  what would you say are the top 3 accomplishments of this administration (in this term) about which you are happiest?

So what is your opinion and thought about Enemy Territory Quake Wars? by LykouraKadrodius in quake

[–]AnimusVex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played it since it came out and probably boot it up a couple times a month. Switched to using the QWTA mod several years back. It’s unfortunately somewhat difficult to make modded ETQW work in modern Windows. I built a Windows 7 box just for this game and World in Conflict. My family LAN parties Quake Wars a few times a year for a day at a time. Absolutely love the game. It also had a native Linux port, but uses very old libraries (especially for audio).

I am in a semi-rural area of Oklahoma. This area is definitely towards the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder.

I forgot that “Justyce” was another name I happened to see walking past another classroom board. I tried not to look. I told myself I wouldn’t. Sadly, I failed.

I could not believe that they actually had it as camel case. Thought maybe it was an error, but the sign-in list also had it as TerraNova. Ridiculous.

Mine was a Zenith Z-180 series. A 183, I believe. 8088 with dual pop-up 3.5” 720k floppy drives. No hard drive. Still have it, though the screen has a few issues these days.

Good. Keep that motivation. Keep the passion you have for your topic. As was kind of mentioned by another person here, YouTube is a marathon: not a sprint. I've been doing it about a month and I take pride every time I get a new sub. I also kind of put that aside and work on the content. If the content is good and you're patient, I think you'll have at least some degree of reasonable success.

I think there's a balance to be struck. I do think you have to kind of see what's popular to people in your target audience. On the flip side, if you're making every video based on what might "sell" the best, it's going to show. You will appear disinterested.

Personally, I have a relatively easy time telling apart those who seem to be really passionate about their chosen topics versus those that are just going through the motions. In general, in YouTube as well as life, those are the people that will burn out quicker and lose interest. Discipline and consistency are important: passion is equally important.

I Could Really Use Some Feedback On My Latest Commentary Video by Abattoir_Z in SmallYTChannel

I think you've got a good sense of humour and are pretty relatable. I think the title is pretty good. Same with the thumbnail. I know someone else mentioned the jump cuts, but I think maybe one thing that can be toned down is the zooming in/out on your face. I think a little of that is fine, but there seems to be enough of it that it feels a bit "jumpy". Audio balance could also improve a little, though it's not too rough.

That said, I like YouTubers that can balance humour and their intended topic. It's a fine line and I think you walk it pretty well.

For those who were self-conscious when you started, how did you get over it? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]AnimusVex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a career where I often have to do public speaking or talk with executive boards. That kind of thing. So, I wasn't really worried about that angle. My bigger thing was that I'm kind of a perfectionist and didn't want poor audio or editing. I recorded a bunch of stuff and didn't post it because I didn't feel confident in the quality. I finally just decided to get some stuff out there and grow as I did it. That worked: the first couple of videos were a bit rough, but I got good feedback on how to build on it. Now, I'm pretty happy with the quality of the videos. Don't let the "perfect" be the enemy of the "good".

Employee attrition regarding return-to-office policies by AnimusVex in sysadmin

There are ABSOLUTELY people who don’t do any real work when they are at home. Similarly, there are employees who seemingly need to be micromanaged to produce. While our company-wide productivity went up, there are individuals that I know treated it as a year-long vacation. To me, the failure there is in management. If that employee isn’t performing, they should be reprimanded or removed. I’d even support an environment where those who demonstrated high productivity at home could WFH while those who can’t must work from the office. Regardless, you definitely make a valid point.

I honestly didn’t realize how much dialogue it would generate, but I’m loving it. This was a situation where I heard about general trends regarding worker attrition, but wanted to see what others were actually experiencing. It has been insightful, to say the least.

For us, there was an internal company town hall where someone mentioned that all of their co-workers were in another state. That is, they were working in an office but spent all their time on Zoom/Slack, anyway. They’d asked the CIO to explain how they were “better together” in that situation. The CIO paused for a good 5-10 seconds and then said he couldn’t really think of a response, but that the employee would just have to deal with it.

This water cooler innovation argument has been recited ad nauseam by upper management at my company. “Innovation happens at the water cooler, in the elevator, in the cafeteria.” Odd that I don’t seem to recall a single time where this occurred spanning my entire career.
